Doing some direct domain sales and got the cold shoulder...how evil, they could have just said not interested. We were even talking by email...how rude.

What you trying to sell over the phone, are you targetting smaller business or the larger ones?

All companies that might be interested, I approach large or small. I send an email first and then call on phone as sometimes I find I get a better more direct response.

Nature of the beast, cold calling is a numbers game.
The key is not to take it personally, quickly move on to the next one

I find its therapeutic to at least pick up the fone sometimes and cut out all the bullshit emails.

I think i'd prefer an email regarding domains, seeing the word in print often helps and it takes up less time to look through a bunch of names on paper.

On a slightly different note, is anyone else having phone calls from companies selling what amounts to packaged adwords/adsense bundles recently? I've been having them every couple of days for about 3 weeks now ! I dont like hanging up but theyre taking the mick :-|

I probably get told to F*ck Off 10+ times a day take it on the chin and dont let it get to you. It motivates me to call more people and get more sales!

Yeah I know what you mean. You have to go through this!!

That's uncanny, I too get told to F*ck Off 10+ times a day, and that's without phoning anybody! :)

Anyone who has done this before for ad sales let me know via email ;-)

Do people really swear at you because you happened to call them about something relevant (I assuming you're calling companies i.e. people are answering at their place of work)? That's pretty disturbing!

Or were you paraphrasing above?

(You can probably tell I've never done any telephone selling...)

Phoning people in relation to financial advice/mortgages/insurance e.t.c they have contacted us before as well, i don't just cold call or i would having to be explaining my self to the FSA in the docks lol

Rob, are you looking to hire?

Open to having a chat with someone about straight commission based inventory sales. Have done previous stuff like that before which has worked very well for all parties.

Just got another hang-up when I mentioned what some people have valued the name at. He did not even listen to what I said...

Damn some people....do people even have ears?

I normaly send a letter or email with all the details, then offering to call them or respond by email. They will do whatever they feel comfortable with. If they dont reply then get the message! No point trying to sell something to someone who doesnt want it!

They have replied....but they do not get it - thats why I call them as its often easier to discuss than email. Had good experience in the past..provided people DO actually listen.

I must admit that I probably feature on training courses for telesales people as an example of an unhappy 'customer'. :D

Just out of curiosity, how many of you guys who cold call to sell domains actually check the TPS register prior to calling? The last domain seller who called me, I informed him of how I was registered with TPS and if reported could face a fine of up to £5,000 for making an unsolicited sales call. Anyway - he ended up hanging up on me!
