Hi everyone. I'm new here but definitely not new to domains - I'm a long-time active member on DNF and NamePros, known on both as NameTrader.com. It's weird, I had heard of Acorn Domains for a long time but didn't know it was a forum until today. I've been in the biz for over 6 years, doing it full time w/o day job for about 3 years. Have managed to stay pretty active in sales despite the economy and have a portfolio that's actually once again growing...between names I own and co-own with my partner in Domainate, I have nearly 2,000 generic & brandable domains for sale and many more just for parking revenue. We specialize in .com and .org, mostly generic keyword domains, usually either high search or high CPC.

Best and worst domains:

The best I have left is probably Doma.in. One day I'll put a site on it that will remain active - as it is I've launched and relaunched blogs on there over the past few years only to get too busy to keep updating it. Is it for sale? Yes and no...the person I co-own it with and I have discussed it and if we had a really nice offer, we'd take it, but both being in the domain industry plus it being about as good as one could get besides domain(s) or name(s) .gtld or strong cctld, it'd take a lot to pry it from our hands.

The best I've ever owned and sold would either be Dieting.org or Poker.in. The latter I sold for $60k in mid-2007 over 2 years after I bought it, the former for far less but because I decided to take a quick offer literally 1 hour after I bought it from someone who saw me buy it on forum.

The worst...well, I've had countless domains that I've gotten entirely because they had traffic per Alexa, only for them to not have had any traffic. However, I'd say the name that I've had for a long time besides that and why I can't honestly say for sure is CyberCom.org. Decent sounding name, but compared to other .org domains I have, it kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. Cyber is kind of a dying term as well.

Hi Domainate....

Thanks for calling by. Your experience with .com & .org will be highly valued and we do have a section for the non .uk names. Call by again.

Cheers, Luke

Thank you Luke. I kind of wish I had more (or I should say any) expertise in .uk as I've come across a number of contacts in that realm over the years. As it is though, I've had a heavy .org focus over the past 2 and a half years and have sold some domains registered in that time for as high as $3,000 so it's worked out well. :)

Hi and Welcome! As far as I know we don't have many .org specialists here, so it should be interesting ;)

I think I only have one .org which is... robinsoncrusoe :D

My very first major sale in early 2005 was a .org - SixDegrees.org - to none other than Kevin Bacon (or at least someone who ended up working with him). He's since put up a charity on it that has raised millions of dollars. It was kind of a fluke/lucky sale, but since then I've had a lot more experience with the extension.

RobinsonCrusoe isn't bad - nice searches for him and a site with various information/history about the book and affiliating the book and other similar books might work okay.

Welcome to the forum. I have a handful of .org, some of the better ones are:

digitalprojectors.org
findflight.org
cruise-holiday.org

Enjoy your .uk domaining.

Rgds

You might want to start your own thread rather than high jacking someone elses ;)

You say your want to talk about sleep problems, you sure this is the right forum for that

Fair play, domainers do sit at a computer all day from 8am to 2am but another forum would have suited better.

Welcome to Acorn if your not a spammer

With a link in their very first post, which had nothing to do with domains or anything remotely domain related? Yea, that's a spammer. :/

Definitely a spammer. The same profile turns up on forums all over the place with 1-2 posts and a linkdrop.

Thanks! I am going to do something with it ;) A friend suggested to put a ... travel shop  but I think it would be a bit ... hmmm... cheesy

I think a travel shop is a great idea - drilled down to island travel perhaps, like the Greek islands etc. In my view it's always best to drill down a little in a massive market.

Well, it's not bad but if someone remembers what happened to Robinson Crusoe in his travel  I don't know...

I don't remember either but I know he was something to do with an island and I would imagine most people would grab that bit reasonably quickly...

LOL, based on the story it's better to put a... travel insurance website ;)
