What domains have you sold and regretted ?

Mind are these >

.org.uk
Picasso
Dressingupgamesforgirls

.co.uk
Divorcecake
Divorcecakes
Sicklecellamenia
Surgicalimplants

.com
Ladsmags
Petrolchainsaws

Post your regrets please :(

I have a few I wish I had kept hold of:

gadgets.org.uk
clothes.org.uk
shirts.org.uk
jumper.co.uk
rolo.co.uk

I don't really go in for "regrets" but certainly there are a few domains that would have been nice to still have in the portfolio...

magazinesubscriptions.com
internetbrowser.com
libel.com
newspapers.co.uk

I sold a few strong keyphrase .me.uk domains for pretty low amounts. I was having a clear-out phase at the time, but would rather have held on to them and had a go at developing them.

Rgds

Reason why you regret would be nice.

A. because I wish i'd developed it?
B. Because I sold it and someone else developed it well.
C. Because It resold for lots more.
D. Because I undersold it.
E. Because some news came out afterward that would of increased value.
F. Because it was a large company that bought it.
G. Because I needed the money at the time
etc,,,,

About four years ago I told someone on here who I was selling a couple of .org.uk's to that tablets.org.uk was free. I'd spotted it and was in two minds, opted not to go for it but probs made a bad choice.

magazinesubscriptions.com < would have been great to develop (the current owner has done this extremely well)

internetbrowser.com < there's a renaissance of interest in browsers with Firefox, Opera and Chrome all fighting a decent battle with IE

libel.com < online libel has become a huge issue

newspapers.co.uk < it's a great "headline" name to have in the portfolio (no pun intended)

Having said that, the funds generated from all the above sales were reinvested in domaining, so they're all foundation stones of the current collection.

Ouch  I take it you're not referring to pills but computer devices

I never regret any sale - It was a needs must exercise

Either I needed more money than I had - or I just needed the money.

We are very lucky. :D

I did sell pennybingo.org.uk for only £30 and then found out I had sold it to the owners of pennybingo.co.uk which is owned by a company called Lomax (online gaming) maybe could have sold it for more ?

Going back a good few years, I made a mistake listing amateur.co.uk on Sedo. Instead of putting £2500 in the minimum offer column, I put it in the fixed price column and two days later got an e-mail saying congratulation you've sold your name!

I explained the mistake to Sedo but was told the buyer had a lot of money and would sue me if I didn't honour the sale so I did only to watch the same buyer pay £9000 for amateurs.co.uk!

It's funny how the buyer can back out on a regular basis but not the seller, you should have stuck to your guns mate :|

A hard lesson learned I guess :(

I triple check everything I put on Sedo !

Doodlebug if you miss dressingupgamesforgirls.org.uk, you can buy my dressupgamesforgirls.org.uk :p

Most of my domain regrets are from pulling out of auctions too cheaply. There's no saying whether going another couple of hundred would've got me those names but who knows...

Every domain I've sold has been too cheap - there are some that I'd pay more for now than I sold them for but I could say that of many things. If I'd kept every house and rented it out instead of selling, I'd be a millionaire.

My parents sold their house in the 80s and downsized to put some cash into their business (which ultimately failed 12 years later). They sold it for £300k, a decent price at the time - the same house would sell in a trice for £2.5m now - maybe £3m. They should've sold the business and kept the house. Hindsight eh?

I wish I sold FlyQ (co/uk) for slightly more than £10. The buyer owned Fly-Q and runs a helicopter business from it. I'm glad he's happy with the purchase though but would have been nice to have had low £xxx for it.

I just sold a domain recently for a very good price (which I did not really want to sell) and do you know what really got on my tits the most?

- it's when the stupid twats butcher all your hard work trying to put their mark on it or turn it into something else which it can't do well.

It has annoyed me so much in the past I have offered to buy back the domain for more to save it.

But its the strangest thing, and its a reocurring theme!!

-people invest good money in a domain, then do exactly the opposite to what you expect with it..methinks wtf are they doing in this business?

I must be missing a larger plan at work as usual..

Julian > I think buying a domain back just to protect it's kudos is bordering on being obsessed with domains like tey are living things

Wafty crank > a tenner ouch !

Brewsters > I know the feeling, I have sold too many on here for next to nothing, it's all about end users for me from now on

My regrets:

I had a domain listed here at the "Bargain Basement Domains" thread, was going to ultimately give it to someone for free or let it drop. To my surprise a few months later I got an offer for that domain and got $2000, I accepted the offer straight away - absolutely no negotiations (considering the fact that I would have let it drop), and now I find out a ***HUGE*** brand has been established around the .com and .co.uk of the domain. In hindsight I think the buyer would have paid up to $20K-$30K because it is their prime real estate!

But then you win some and you lose some!
