I see Nominet have increased the font size of their new and improved services area for blind people like me.

    WTF!!

So where do I get the alternative to log into my registrar account or normal account. Same email address!! It just logs me into my registrar account with no damn way of accessing all the domains on the account I keep most of my domains on!

Does reading this (linked to from the login page) address your question? :) From reading it, Nominet have decided to focus on the email address rather than individual account IDs so when you login with [email protected]ess + password, you are presented with a page detailing all domain names associated with that email address + password. These domain names may be across Registrars and Nominet accounts. As a Nominet Registrar, that uses the same login details for their Registrar account as well, just login as usual and select Your Domain names from the dashboard. The same then applies as with ordinary user accounts; you'll see all domain names associated with that email address + password listed. I quite like it because there is now no need to remember which account a domain name might be held within, before logging in, which is especially useful for users who have domain names at different Nominet Registrars but want to use just one set of login details at Nominet. Ordinary users now don't need to remember account IDs and which domain names are associated with which. One login brings them all up, regardless of Nominet Registrar.

More passwords? How so? Are you referring to the optional addition of a security pass phrase or something else?

So you think they've done nothing else all year? What else would you have liked (other than some kind of financial refund)?

All I can say is, what an f*cking eyesore, it was far better the way they had it previously, why do people try to change things to supposedly make them better, when all it does is make them worse, harder to find things, and plain ugly with over sized fonts

The larger fonts do have the tendency to make the interface seem unattractive or amateurish. However I genuinely like the idea of logging into all accounts associated with an email address + password rather than having to remember which account to log in to based on a numerical account ID. The Your Domains > Domain List page displays all of the domain names, associated with that email address + password, by Registrant and Registrar. In this particular sense Nominet have focused on trying to allow users to get what they need done by removing the requirement for a user to distinguish between different account ID numbers.

What were you trying to find that you couldn't initially following the changes? :)

This will take some getting use to.

It looks like Nominet have centered everything around the email address, disregarding who owns what in a legal sense.

It looks like the new system forces you to enter every line of the new registrant from scratch when transferring in a batch of names, whereas before you could just log in and transfer into that identity. That's a lot more work, and it also means you have to be VERY careful to enter EXACTLY the same info every time or you're going to end up with fragmented sets of domains each with different Whois data.

Correction: you can copy a previous registrant if you choose "choose existing registrant" but that's extremely counter-intuitive as in the .com world that's often the wording used for an intra-registrar transfer where you want to keep the Whois unchanged.

If you remember back to how it used to be, it's always been the case that one logged in with an email address + password. As far as I can remember it has never been possible to have multiple passwords associated with the same email address providing access to different Nominet accounts accordingly. Therefore when the correct combination of email address + password was entered, prior to the recent changes, one was presented with a selection of account IDs to log in to. It wasn't always possible to easily ascertain which account one needed to log in to for managing a particular domain name (domain names associated with each account were listed but if there were a lot of domain names it wasn't possible to list them all).

This change simply does away with the user having to ascertain which account to select at log in time, after the correct email address + password have been entered, and instead presents all Registrants, and associated domain names, on the Your Domains page. Registrants are still displayed and their associated domain names underneath as well as associated Registrar.

Perhaps they should suffix "choose existing registrant" with the word "profile" or offer a little more pop up help with that since it confused you at first? :)

Something I may have just noticed: I've several Nominet accounts associated with the same email address. Some of those accounts are in the name of different Registrants. This change by Nominet now logs me into all of the accounts, as I've explained already. I went to Registrant Transfer and all of the domain names across all three accounts (together with the Registrant name in brackets alongside each domain name) are listed with check boxes next to each. It is possible to transfer names from different Registrants to the same recipient Registrant, if the domain names are associated with the same email address, for just a single £12.00 transfer fee. Prior, because I'd have to do the transfers by logging into each account, I think I'd have had to pay £12.00 for each transfer from an account. I wonder if that was intentional.

I had a chat to a very friendly lady from their support team about the wording this morning, after I was temporarily at a loss. Hopefully she'll pass the message on and they'll concoct something less ambiguous.

You are not able to merge accounts with the new system. Contacted Nominet and was told that I will have to ask my registrar to merge any accounts.

To merge contacts you need to be a Registrar and use the Web Domain Manager. Cannot see a way to merge accounts at the moment, although Nominet appear to be getting away from making the account ID so prominant now so it actually isn't necessary to do it. As I mentioned previously, as far as I am aware, it has only ever been possible to have a single email address + password combination for all accounts associated with that email address (and not possible to have [email protected] + "mypassword" and [email protected] + "myotherpassword" to login in to two different accounts). Therefore when you login with your email address + password combination (the only one possible), you will see all domain names associated with it across all accounts on the one screen. The same email address cannot have multiple passwords associated with it.

FYI Nominet account IDs don't transcend Nominet Registrars so even if you have domain names at 123-REG and EASYSPACE using the same email address as the contact, both sets of domain names will be within at least two different Nominet accounts (and possibly more if a Registrar never merged accounts belonging to the same Registrant).
