Anyone on here run a monthly subscription type site? If so what CMS are you using?

I've heard good things about cratejoy but I'm not a big fan of paying monthly for something like this.

Have you looked at using stripe to take payment. I've just set it up for use on my Job boards and I'm sure I seen some info in there doc's about subscriptions. There API as loads of documentation about integrating with most web programing languages and frameworks.

If you looking at open source then Laravel is great if you know php and there is a great video on accepting stripe payments.

If your looking for more of a cms I still have an expression engine licence I'm looking to move on

https://ellislab.com/expressionengine/features

It has some simple commerce features built in and there was a nice add on available exactly for managing subscription memberships

Thanks. Have definitely heard of stripe considering I work for a company in a very similar industry :) Don't think I'd be interested in that license but thanks.

The more I look in to it the more I'm starting to think cratejoy is the only proper solution. Just a few things putting me off them. Don't like the fact that there are monthly fees, standard transaction fees and variable transaction fees (that's not including stripes fees of course).

As well as that, what happens if cratejoy decide to stop working on cratejoy and then suddenly your business is in trouble if anything goes wrong. Then again this could happen with other services.

I'm using Cratejoy and it's better than any other subscription solution I have come across (like hacking up a normal ecommerce CMS to do subs). The cost of Cratejoy is fairly minimal.

Btw, I highly recommend this book if you are considering a subscription business: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/159184746X/?tag=acorn06-21

Actually could I ask you how you found customising your CrateJoy site? Do you just get giving one basic template that you can mess around with yourself?

Can't seem to find much online about this. Cheers.

I think there are about 10 free templates to choose from. I went with one, hired a designer to chop it up and customise, then paid a friend to develop it on Cratejoy. I couldn't customise a website to save my life, but I paid less than £500 for design and build. It was done in the space of two weeks.

Might be worth signing up for a free account and having a poke about?

Perfect sounds good. I'd say I'd be able to mess about with some of their templates and with 10 to choose from that should be plenty.

Going to try it out soon once I've got my plan together for shipping products etc. Thanks for the help.
