problem with nominet epp?

Has anyone else got a problem connecting to nominet EPP? I can trace to it so IP is fine but unable to connect as normal. This is on multiple machines.

 

Ok thanks - I emailed nominet but I don't expect a reply. I know with all the millions profit *cough* extra they made they don't usually employ anyone at the weekend.

 

They carried out / are carrying out work today to upgrade the EPP to only accept TLS 1.1+ connections. Obviously it's not going very smoothly...

 

Whooops! Sunday foggy-head syndrome I even went and checked my system to see what TLS version I was using...

 

I stand corrected - there was someone at nominet who has told me they had intermittent problems but all ok now. Sorry nominet

Mine dropped out this morning completely, but that may have been when the lll got renewed (at least 11 hours into the day of drop, wow, they got very lucky!)

 

I know they are now allowed to retain domains, but surely not in the original registrants details?

 

Yeah strange how they renewed when they did..... almost like they knew when it was going to be deleted.

 

I'd be suprised... why would they let it go for 12+ hours before renewing it today, and risk it dropping and getting caught in that time? It's also still legally in the original registrants name, which wouldn't make any sense.

 

I don't think the issue here is that big registrars can keep good domains for themselves it's more that this registrar seemed to take the risk of allowing the domain to potentially drop before renewing. There are only 2 reasons I can see to do it this way: 1) They realised late and were very lucky (highly doubtful as it's a Sunday and everything is most likely automated) or 2) They already knew what time it was going to drop and the system was set up to use that as the last minute renewal (of course we know that can't possibly be the case as nobody, even nominet's biggest registrar , knows what time a domain will drop).

 

Just a thought. Is there any link between nominet, hosteurope, and 123reg? Perhaps someone on the board or part of the organisation could let us know.

One thing I'm not sure at what time the EPP went down. I guess if it was down at the new day time a renew request might have been sent the day before the domain was due to drop but wasn't processed until some time later. That would make sense as there would have been zero risk of the domain dropping assuming everything was running correctly.

 

EPP was running fine in the early hours, so doubt it was that. This all may just be pure coincidence, but I'd question the registrar knowing the drop time, which Nominet 'claim' is entirely random and automated, hmmmm.
