Hello all,

Firstly, I am completely new to the world of domain speculation, having spent the last seven years or so developing my own & other people's web sites.

A good name, I agree, is paramount for business success on the web, so how did I end up with:

Web-O-Matics.co.uk

Well I had this concept of information terminals in waiting areas of hotels, fish & chip shops & doctors surgeries. Did it fly? In a word, No!

Never mind, I could always sell it to the waiting millions anxious to make a fortune from my idea! Well, the world was obviously not impressed and I didn't get a single bid on eBay! Lapsed! (It was the hyphen's you see - brilliant idea but the hyphens shot it down! Bad workman & tools comes to mind!)

Get a name that has meaning - that's the ticket!
Dynamic expanding market. Used cars.

UsedCarsinWestWales.co.uk - don't even ask! At the end of two years I didn't bother to put it on eBay. Not one of my glorious inventions!

Well if a long name is not going to make my fortune, what about a very short one?

How short? 3 characters.

Park it somewhere and watch the £s roll in? If only!

FE2.co.uk

Still own this, still quivering with indecision as to what to do with it. Oh, yes, the meaning? Isn't it obvious? Haven't you heard of a Nikon FE2?

No? Well that's the problem, neither has 99.9% of the population!

Ah well on to the next idea. This one is truly going to make me millions - just watch this space .................

Moduron.com (& Moduron.co.uk)

What?

Been to Wales? Noticed what it says on garages? "Moduron Teify" . Yes I agree if it were in English, I would be retiring to the south of France for I now own "Motors.com" & "Motors.co.uk" - in Welsh. However to make it a bit clearer to the bemused multitudes, I now also own "WelshMotor.com" & "WelshMotor.co.uk" I am about to develop this little group of four names into the Welsh equivalent of Autotrader (hope springs eternal!)

So why am I currently trying to sell on eBay (where else?)
"ThievesOnLine.com" & "ThievesOnLine.co.uk"
You'll have to read the tale on the web site. Genuinely Guv, I am innocent this time, I was only trying to help somebody ......................

Yours, unsuccessfully,

Paul

....... is not gold!

I'm rich, I'm rich, I had this absolutely fantastic offer this morning for "ThievesOnLine" - been spending it all day!

Really nice to see the "right crowd" reads these forums avidly!

"Hello,

Please send me price for your domain.

We are very interested in this name.

Did you get offers from other people already?

Our company develops client-server systems ( MS SQL/ Visual C++ ), so investing
in domain names is not my main business.

Looking forward to do business with you.

Best regards,
Koichi Nakagami, Ph. D.
President
Opera Systems Ltd."

Wonderful - a real customer - must seize the opportunity, after all, not a single watcher on eBay yet!

So full of enthusiasm, I've just replied to him:

"Dear Koichi Nakagami, Ph. D.President, Opera Systems Ltd
or
Paul Anestad Ph.D, CEO, Opera Engineering
or
Robert Johansen Ph.D., CEO Opera Engineering
or
Sarah Murray Ph. D. President, TNT Software Consulting
or
Michael Calagna, Ph. D. President, RTP Engineering
or
Dwight Cheney, Ph. D. President, TCR Engineering

I could go on, but this is getting boring.

One Simple question.

Why don't you try earning an honest living?

Not everybody is stupid you know!

You never know you might meet somebody cleverer than you one day, who could create you a lot of trouble!

Have a nice day

Paul.

P.S. Must publish your name on ThievesOnLine.com - you have given me a good story. Many thanks"

Ah well, what do they say about "Fools Gold"

Paul

Still unsuccessful, but getting wiser
