I suffer a lot of angst about my lack of knowlege of how much to donate.

It would help (me) if we agreed a standard figure.

To me AcornDomains is quite a strange environment - there are not too many "forums" on the net where cash changes hands in return for information. The social science behind the various groups/attitudes it is quite interesting.

Personally, I don't list names for the money but if you give people something which is of value to them then sometimes a small thank-you is appreciated. I have had my crack at the list over the last couple of days, thought about a lot of them, and regged the ones I wanted which (hopefully) will make me some money so anything else is a bonus.

I think about it this way - if one of my mates handed me a list of reasonable (but rejected by them) names in the pub and I regged a few domains off it I would go any more overboard than to buy him a couple of pints! It always amuses me with people who do the whole ''I'll make a donation if I manage to sell it on" which I reckon is total BS.

It is a slightly different call when it comes to admin who puts in a whole lot more effort putting the site together and doing lists on a daily basis!

I think there are two elements of donation which could be considered 1) the thank-you for running the site and keeping regular content appearing [i.e. admin] 2) the thank-you for posting a name which you subsequently register [i.e. to the people who post names be it admin or some other]

I'm not religious, but still find The Bible a good read from time to time. This extract of The Book, makes a good point:

Mk. 12:41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. [42] But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny. [43] Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. I presume that you mean the average of those who actually donate rather than 10 quid for each fo the total number taken!
