Hi all,

I need some help getting my new dedicated server setup. It's got WHM/CPanel installed and i've added the hosting account through WHM so it is now present on the server. I am able to upload files via ftp using the servers main IP address but can't access the files either through the IP address or the domain name.

The nameservers of the domain name are pointing to the IP's on the server, but if I visit http://ip-address/~username I get a "server cannot be found" error.

This is doing my head in - i've been at it over 7 hours now, i've even tried deleting the account and starting from scratch - but nothing! :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated - if you can solve it, i'll gladly make a donation to your beer fund! :)

Thanks in advance,

Craig

P.S. I've been contacting support all day but they all seem to have better things to do (or they've gone home!)

I don't know if this helps but i have a dedicated server with Rackspace.

I need to tell rackspace the domain name to so they accept on their name servers. If i do not do this, the name never resolves.

I need to change the domain so it points to:
ns1.rackspace.com
ns2.rackspace.com

Then tell Racksapce the domain name.

Are you sure you need the /username? Have you tried the ip without it?

The host knows about the domain, and it doesn't work with just the IP address either - although I am able to login to whm by visiting http://ip-address:2086 lol

I'll check httpd now and let you know if it's that. Thanks to everyone for your replies.

Craig

If "httpd service" is the same as apache, I have to stop apache and restart once i have added the domain otherwise it doesn't resolve.

If you want to PM me more information I'll have a look for you. I've got several servers with and without cpanel/whm.

I've tried restarting apache but got the following error:
Code:
Apache restart failed. Unable to load pid from pid file and no httpd process found in process list.

If apache restart reported success but it failed soon after, it may be caused by oddities with mod_ssl.

You should run /usr/local/cpanel/scripts/ssl_crt_status as part of your troubleshooting process. Pass it --help for more details.

Also be sure to examine apache's various log files.
Apache Restart Output:

Log:

I've run /usr/local/cpanel/scripts/ssl_crt_status and tried restarting it again but got the same error :( Guess it's something to do with httpd then lol!

I'll contact support (again), tell them to provide me with a server that works and see what they say. I'll update here when they reply.

Thanks,

Craig

Contact Nick, jimm on acorn, amotherby computers off it. He will have you sorted in no time and is 100% trustworthy.

Thanks Caz, Rob (RobM) is sorting it as I type this - part of the problem was that apache httpd was missing believe it or not!

Thanks,

Craig

Seems the datacenter is going to do a clean install. Somehow they'd managed to give him a server with no apache and no php yet installed cpanel. The mind boggles :p

The first time they handed it over they "forgot" to install cpanel - then this lol!

Many thanks Rob you've been a great help!

Craig
