Doing your own PR

Has anyone got ideas for a jewellery brand ?

What I mean is story ideas that are likely to be picked up by journalists

If you know where to look, there are PR services out there where journalists come to you.

Jewellery is an industry where journalists and bloggers are always seeking new products to review.

Try Response Source (Google it). I do PR for a company in a related field - we get 20+ requests for review products on a daily basis. Each review usually comes with an embedded link on everything from national newspaper websites, to blogspot sites. Definitely make use of the free trial!

Let me know how you go on.

How about how awkward being a jeweller is with sexual connotations? The Daily Mail would love that!

wat do u mean?
I suspect pearl necklace and ring related.

Why not do a survey to find out how much men currently spend on engagement rings? I suspect you will find out it's less than it used to be.

We actually did this and more for a gift related spend piece, never even published it.

OK so it looks like the hard bit is having the journalist contacts.....

Does anyone have any journalist contacts they'd like to share with me to get me started? ;)

Most journalists specialise in niche areas: Finance, environment, sport, etc.

Log on to a few newspaper websites and find some articles in the niche you're working in. Note down the names of the journalists who wrote those articles, then punch their names into Journalisted.com and find their contact information.

It's certainly not a quick task. But if you're willing to dedicate time to it, it's certainly rewarding.

You can also use tools like follower wonk and find people on twitter with ease.

After much deliberation I have started off with creating a survey: http://tolu.na/13qdj1b to collate some statistical data prior to writing a press release. If you find yourself with 3 minutes & a desire to be entered into our prize draw for £25 of personalised gifts then please complete our survey!

As a side effect of this I'd highly recommend www.quicksurveys.com if you need to run your own surveys for any reason!

Sometimes doing your own PR is a good idea, especially when you're on a low budget. Another good thing about press releases is that you can put links to your website, so you can consider it a link building campaign too.
