Google says dont link to bad neighbourhoods...............

Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links.

What are they? Where do I find them? Anyone have any real life examples?

Its basically not link to sites that contain the things google do not like,

All the spammy topics, drugs / pharmaceutical also adult sites.

Its an area that gets spam hammered and they penalise you for linking to those "bad neighbourhoods".

There are web services available such as:

http://www.bad-neighborhood.com/text-link-tool.htm

That will scan your site for links and tell you if they are questionable or not.

I tried that bad-neighbourhood site but don't quite undersatnd it :?
It shows links from sites that are nothing to do with me and leading to other sites that are nothing to do with me ?

It goes through your source and finds all the links even if they are commented out it then scans those sites to see if they link to questionable sites etc.

So you could be using WordPress and it finds the theme authors url, or a plugin authors url added to your source then scans that site for questionable links and the sites they link too etc.

If you tell us an example url you scanned and the urls it spat out that you think have nothing to do with your site and i'll have a look, PM me if you want.

Look at the link profiles of some 'SEO' companies and people, some stuff out there is shocking.

Thought it meant you Shouldnt link to sites in Brooklyn or Queens etc. Knew I was going wrong somewhere

According to this tools if any illegal websites link to you then it show questionable mark for that website (Like Poker word, casino word, pharmacy word, sex word etc..). Its check also backlinks of those website and give report accordingly.

But i have a question. If any illegal site link to your then what can you do ? And does google penalize for this ? Because its not in our control. And if any one can down rank by this way then each webmasters will link his competitor websites to illegal sites.

It Think if this tools show questionable marks for those links who are placed in your websites then you should consider about them but if this tools is notify you for incoming links by questionable marks then we should ignore this Because i dont this incoming links can hurt ranking any way.

If i am wrong then please let me know some details.

According to Google bad neighborhoods are typically identified by spammy on page seo techniques (over stuffing of keywords in metatag) interlink profiles and doubtful backlink. Google will penalize your site, if link from bad neighborhoods is added in your site. So next time be careful during link exchange.

bad neighborhood include:

* cloaking
* spamming
* installing viruses or malware
* link farms
* breaking other laws

All of these things will get a site penalized or banned from Google and other search engines, and if you link to these sites, your site will be penalized.
