Hi all,

Did anybody have experience of promoting a website using some backlinks from .gov and .edu zones?
Have you found some significant impact?

Thanks!

Never tried it but it seems all the rage on the blackhatteam forum, plenty scripts and software there to get .edu and .gov backlinks. As I said, never tried it, I prefer whitehat stuff because all my sites are regged with my own registrar, but it doesn't hurt to read what the blackhat guys are up to.

Thanks. How do you understand whitehat promotion? Are placing edu and .gov backlinks work will not refer to whitehat stuff?

I can't see why a .edu or .gov site would link back to an affiliate site for no reason, (I mostly deal with affiliate sites) so that's why I'm saying it's mostly blackhat stuff to get these links. I don't do blackhat stuff, but it is very simple to do.

It will likely get you sandboxed in the long term, google isnae daft :)

I had experienced power of .edu and .gov backlinks because search engines give more importance to that domains and .edu and .gov domains have good PR. So, it helps to get fast index. You can simply find some .edu and .gov blogs and can put comment with link.

Any links that are hard to get are likely to convey some additional benefit. I bet the same as for links on authority sites like BBC News etc. Much of the benefit is likely down to the number of inblound links to those domains and extensions though.

It's very easy to get hold of .edu/.gov links but it's difficult to find them and use them legitimately. Many .edu and .gov sites will have forums and blogs where it's possible to add a comment including a backlink. It's a fairly common and slightly shady way of getting relatively high authority links quickly and easily. You can usually find big lists by searching google for various terms such as submit/add comment with the inurl:.edu command. I found this list in under a minute - http://www.lankaentrepreneur.com/li...st-1800-pr0-pr8-edu-comment-enable-links.html

The problem is because it's so easy to do, it gets abused so your links will likely appear on a page awash with viagra/porn links, either that or the number of external links will be huge and thus massively reduce the equity passed from the page.

Of course, regardless, there is never usually a legitimate way of commenting unless the topic happens to be on topic. High quality links can be achieved in other ways, such as sponsorship of university related activities/events but it's not cheap to do so.

I am also looking for these kinds of links because i heard that .edu and .org links can boost your website and SERP ranking, but question is that from where we can get these links, is there any source to get these kinds of links?.

I have no experience of posting on such site but i have read in an article that backlinks they produce are helpful in SERP rate.

If you can find .EDU and .GOV links where they are not flooded with backlinks then they will offer value.

They key to everything is diversity, i know many many people who have ranked for competitive keywords using White and Greyhat SEO like blog commenting, social bookmarking, EDU and Gov links, Directory listings, blogroll links, blog posts etc etc.

As long as your diverse and dont flood your site with a tonne of links and then nothing, have good content and onpage optimisation then there is still place for it.

I mean how otherwise would you get links for a website like genital warts symptoms. You would have to seriously offer mega value to health sites for them to even consider linking to that. I know i for one would not have Genital Warts Symptoms on my useful resources page!

This is correct. But, I tried to search the open .EDU and .GOV blogs, guestbooks, etc... and used a lot of methods. And those all pages were spammed with external backlinks.

I doubt this is worth to spend time.

I've read that .edu and .gov links do help but finding these sites that aren't loaded to the max with people commenting is very hard. It's likely Google will know about these sites and disregard their value. If anyone wants to share some .edu or .gov sites that are not overloaded by PM then i'll be more than happy to use it as a test as I have a relatively new web site that i'm trying to perform SEO on.

But would that be a really useful link anyway?
