A quick update.

I have just applied for the Trademark for the Domain Summit at the UK's Intellectual Property Office.

and, after the payment was made:

The International Trademark application process requires that our trademark has been registered or the subject of an application of registration first with our Industrial Property Office (United Kingdom), as the international application must be based on such a basic mark.

After approved and registered, will use the Madrid System (WIPO) to apply for an international trademark (covers most countries globally - the most important for me: EU, UK, USA, China, India, Russia). After that we should be more or less safe from other parties organising variations of Domain Summits.

The new and improved logo:

used font: Rubber Nipple Factory

the planned variations of logo:

The idea of the logo is hidden in the bottom points of arrow (have I told this before?) > dn industry entrepreneur or dn investor starts growing, then needs to make a solid investment (most often larger than initial investment and current profits) in order to have the chance to reach the heights he is after.

Greetings to all the colleagues who already have registered their trademarks or are in the process of doing this.
Are you thinking of such a process? Don't be afraid :) .. it is quite straight forward, as long as your basis are covered :) .. and for sure, not expensive, especially if you wish to have just the UK mark.

Great day all!
Helmuts

p.s. feel free to ask questions.. there are many of us who have gone through this essential process before :)

Helmuts you seem like such a great and open guy, but I'm going to have to be that guy that warns against being such an open book. If you tell people you're going to do something before you do it it can lead to unintended trouble!! But seems as you have.... why not just use the Madrid system for your application in the first place?

I mentioned it before, but I worry that it may be classed as merely descriptive. IE you might be able to protect the icon (as a figurative mark) possibly, but probably not the 'domain summit' word mark. Not that I think you'll have a problem if you have good enough branding and use your shiny new domain name, but I don't think you'll be able to stop anyone from hosting a "domain summit" per se.

I was trying to dig out one that I thought was similar. These are from the USA (they might have more strict rules though, probably):

BUSINESS & CLIMATE SUMMIT
https://tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=79216871&caseType=SERIAL_NO&searchType=statusSearch
https://tsdr.uspto.gov/documentview...=MOC20170927104143&linkId=7#docIndex=9&page=1

DENTAL INNOVATION SUMMIT
https://tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=97445485&caseType=SERIAL_NO&searchType=statusSearch
https://tsdr.uspto.gov/documentview...NFIN20230328145946&linkId=4#docIndex=3&page=1

THE TRADEMARK SUMMIT (amusing to say the least)
https://tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=97001849&caseType=SERIAL_NO&searchType=statusSearch
https://tsdr.uspto.gov/documentview...=OOA20220608122713&linkId=3#docIndex=2&page=1

... each one refused for being merely descriptive.

"Section 2(e)(1) – Merely Descriptive Refusal Registration is refused because the applied-for mark merely describes the nature and field of applicant’s services. Trademark Act Section 2(e)(1), 15 U.S.C. §1052(e)(1); see TMEP §§1209.01(b), 1209.03 et seq. A mark is merely descriptive if it describes an ingredient, quality, characteristic, function, feature, purpose, or use of an applicant’s goods and/or services."

Worth getting some advice on it from someone that knows more about it than me though so you don't waste your money.

I'll be watching from the side lines cheering the registration through anyway haha

Yes, therefore I needed to add a logo (the bare text could be disapproved). Yesterday had a 2-hour consultation with a TM expert - and this was exactly her concern as well.

Thank you for your concerns and best wishes!!

Sounds good. They might rip the word mark portion out and the rest can continue on.

:D :D yep :D :D .. funny, isn't it :) still, the font is 100% free to be used commercially and was the winner among the all the other ones.

be careful what you are doing, you are extremely motivated when doing this now and of course you want to share.
Let me know if you need help, I am an interest here: https://euctm.com

Thank you Freddy!! I think I will be fine - have done this before (with success) + have couple of consultants.

fingers crossed :)

I applied for a trademark a couple of weeks ago. It passed the initial IPO test and has now been published in the journal awaiting final clearance. Super smooth process.

Great! .. now you just need to wait.

Here is my experience with HostMaria trademark (if you wonder how long others have waited):
Application date: October 16, 2020
Registration date: February 19, 2021
.. = 4 months

You never did answer why you didn't use the madrid system for the application? I'm wondering why, I don't know a hell of a lot about it other than you can apply to multiple offices from one system.

Hi, the answer was in the original thread.

You can't go directly global > you need to get the local UK mark first (if from the UK) >> after that you would apply for the global mark using the existing UK one.

does this help?

awww... also, class 41?? :) the same as for the Domain Summit.. interesting.. also, event organizing?

Not specifically in this case, more retail selling via websites, etc.

Coincidentally, I have run an events company for 17 years as a passion project. In the poker industry. We run events every month of the year in the UK and Europe.
