Hi Everyone, tomorrow I’ll be running a 20 mile, 200 obstacle course. It’s the biggest obstacle course in the world and I’m expecting that it’s going to hurt... a lot!

I figured I needed a challenge and to get fit given that I spend the best part of every day in front of my computer. I wasn’t alone in thinking this so some colleagues from my previous job, and a few friends, have taken up the challenge. I’m hoping I can do it in under 5 hours, but we’ll see.

Is anyone else doing this, or has anyone on here ever tried a marathon, three peaks challenge or something similar? Whilst training has been hard work, I can see why people like to do these things. Although I need a sanity check having seen the below photo.

Whilst I’m not usually one to spam the world with sponsorship requests, if anyone does want to donate I’d be very grateful. We’re raising money for Centrepoint and you can donate at http://www.justgiving.com/Image-Source-HQ

I’ll let you know how it goes!

Dang son - that looks intense.

I've done a few things in my time - tough guy, snowdonia marathon etc.. (although the old beer gut has made an appearance in recent years)

Main advice I can give you is wear comfortable clothing (for obstacle courses lycra shirts and bottoms are probably the best thing you can do).

The rest is mental (assuming you've done the training) - you can do a lot more than your body will tell you you can, so just keep pushing yourself through those mental-walls. And don't stop - if you lose your momentum it'll be a lot harder to get going again.

Having a team helps a ton with this, so make sure you keep an eye on each other and give encouragement/physical help if you spot anyone flagging (and get them to do likewise).

Good luck and enjoy it!

Thanks for the advice. I've got the kit, I've been training, but you never know what it'll be like until the day. The weather is not looking good, but I'm fairly confident. Worst case I walk it.

Did you enjoy the tough guy and snowdonia marathon, or is itmore the feeling at the end?

Alex,

Fair play and good luck. Looks like a killer !!

So that would be a 'No' to an indulgent steak supper and a couple of bottles of decent port tonight at Gaucho's then ? ;-) *sniggers*

@LordBull When are we doing something like this LB? Or shall we try a pub obstacle course first?

@Alex, can you PM me your Paypal/Bank account details? Justgiving doesn't seem to recognize my account anymore and I don't have a UK creditcard.

Good luck

@LordBull Thanks for the donation mate, much appreciated. The indulgent steak supper comes tomorrow night, and I may crack open a bottle of port - or maybe I'll just go to bed!

@ProDomains That's very kind, thank you. I'll PM you now.

Thanks to everyone who has donated/contacted me. The JustGiving page is a team page and there's a lot of activity from a lot of different people so I'm really sorry if I haven't thanked you personally for your donations, but I am very grateful. It's something that will keep me going tomorrow.

Going to clock off now as up at 6am, but I'll let you know how it goes.

Well I did it!

I managed every obstacle and covered the whole 20 miles. My knee was shot after 10 miles so limped the rest, but managed it in seven and a half hours which included about two and a half hours waiting at the various bottlenecks. All in all very happy with how it went. I'm aching now though!

Thanks everyone for your messages of support and donations, I really appreciate it.

Alex

You're a proper lunatic young Alex, but very well done.
Hope the limbs return to normal quickly !
Suggest you alternate as hot as you can bear, followed by as cold as you can bear (that's just the whiskey lol)

Much respect

LB

Good work - hope you celebrated with a big ass steak and a few beers!

And yeah those bottle necks are a pain in the ass...

Ha Ha i just gave it a quick glance" and thought i better say good luck - whoops :D
