Hi All,

Anyone know if Nominet has out of hours conatact numbers?

I've had a V194 aginst a domain of mine and I can't renew. I tried all day yesterday (24th) to renew the domain, as its not due to drop until today (25th) but the system would not allow me and served me up a V194 memsage everyt time I tried.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim.

Basically if you want to be sure of renewing your domains, make sure to renew them at least TWO days before the delete date. Nominet seem to have started enforcing the principle, though there was poor communication about this new level of enforcement.

Some people have lost domains. Others have had to resort to re-catching their own domains.

I had this and for reference Out of Hours are unable to do anything, but in hours staff can "for the time being" manually intervene and remove the block on the name.

They made it sound like this a temporary measure (being able to intervene) and they also made it sound like they only gave me the ability to renew NOT blocked it from dropping nor renewed it for me, so IF they do intervene you need to renew ASAP because its still in the drop cycle (I asssume).

This issue was raised in the last UKRAC meeting where all members complained about the handling of this release.
Expect more communication and clarification from Nominet soon, but this serverRenewProhibited behaviour is here to stay.

I contacted Nominet again today about this issue. Basically it would be good if they clarified what's happened - tighter implementation of rules - and made it absolutely clear when the final cut-off point was for renewing individual domains. At the UKRAC meeting I suggested to Ellie Bradley that it would be best if the cut-off time for renewals was standardised to an exact time (maybe midnight) because at present it seems that the cut-off is whatever time the domain was originally registered, and many of your registrants won't have a clue when that is, and neither will most registrars.

In the end, I suspect that droplists will come, and there will probably be something like a 5-day pending delete before a name is deleted, during which time domains can't be renewed because the tag is removed from the records. The Working Group which Andrew and Ciprian sit on is looking at this at present.

But I've asked for further clarification from Nominet on the exact details of what's being implemented right now, and when the final time is enforced for any given domain. All of us on UKRAC have made this point loud and clear to the Nominet staff.
