Telegraph Article - Former BBC chairman joins bid to oust board at web registry

The FAQ section is quite interesting. It is rather concerning that Phil Buckingham has ignored all communication from those that have elected him.

Additionally, the following is disturbing about David Thornton:
20/01/2021 - Had a Zoom with David to try and understand position and role. David favours a commercially orientated Nominet and possible devolution from the membership structure. In role on Remuneration Committee explained that top salaries need to be paid to retain “top talent”. We disagreed on the necessity of diversification (I think it’s unnecessary) but it was an honest and frank dialogue and I am very grateful for his time.

I also reached out to Phil on LinkedIn and had no reponse

Clear as day there will be gov intervention and probable take over of Nominet at some point if this carries on. There's nothing that can stop this... It's a juicy little number begging to be brought into the pubic sector.

Sorry, I'm not the 'jumpy' type. I don't know who you think is going to do anything or what they could do about a throwaway comment on a forum...

Fair enough, I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about :)

Is this some covid symptom i dont know about where you can only write single word sentences now? ;)

Probably :)

For clarity I don't think its a good thing it going public, it would be a real shame after all this time.. I mean 25 years is a hell of a run in this industry.. way more than most marriages, but the world has changed and I think it might be difficult for Nominet to carry on skulking about in the background pumping good cash into useless projects, over paying employees etc. I thinks we safe in the short term 1-2 years, depends who comes in and out.

It's quite sad to read Nominet's reply, reads like desperation.

They still don't get it, all these things planned shouldn't be Nominet's business, that's the point of the EGM. Keep the domains working, hand out money to good projects and leave the rest to the private for profit sector (the members own businesses). They seem to be arguing that they have no plans to put domain prices up again in the future. Members want a price reduction, I'd never assumed that they may go up even higher.

Reading that page makes me think that they know it is already too late to stay. They say they are willing to listen to members, but only if members tell them what they want to hear.

reads like desperation.
Exactly what I thought – desperate

How pathetic to like and retweet your own tweet:
