I caught this domain after its previous owner let it expire...

They let it expire very soon after it got quite a bit of media attention (e.g. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-17991038). Whether it was a mis-guided attempt at link bait by the previous owner, or a genuine mistake, the domain has a pretty awesome link profile, which has surely got to be worth something. I just stuck up a script driven voucher code site (doesn't even have affiliate links on at the moment but I have a solution to add them easily via skimlinks).

Keen to hear people's thoughts

It's good links comes from the fact it used Madeleine McCann photo to promote discounted holidays on their website..

I would guess they were so disgraced they decided to stop using the website and rebranded to a new domain.

Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable benefiting from links gained from this story..

Ah I remember this story.

Personally I don't think I'd feel right either making money from something like this, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's worth something.

Thanks for your comments.

I am of the opinion that the incident which led to the demise of what was a profitable site for the guy ... was just a mistake. The image was either scraped automatically and not noticed, or a foreign VA put the image up. It's obviously terrible that the image was ever published in that context, however I don't think it was published in this context intentionally. Either way, we'll probably never know.

As I say I've not monetised the site, however I know that it's seen as a highly authoritative site in the eyes of Google. I can't really see someone being able to re-build the voucher Digg brand - as it'll always have the negative sentiments towards it - however I'd be interested to know what value would be attributed to it given the SEO weight it holds - if any!

I have no doubt the image was put up by mistake, but the fact is you now know where it's good links come from.. if you're happy to try and make money from it then I guess it goes on your conscience.

I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to help you by giving any kind of appraisal, for obvious reasons, sorry.

I think on moral grounds you shouldn't sell it but maybe redirect it to the Madeline Mccann site so they can benefit from the traffic.
