    Hi,

Is there any possibility of having a board on this site for domain rentals? How to rent out, pitfalls, rentals available, rentals wanted etc. It's something I've seen discussed occasionally in the past and something that doesn't seem to be covered on any other site, so I think it'd be useful and bring traffic to the Acorn Domains.

    Mike.

Does anyone have any experience to get the forum going if I create it?

I've never used it, but I have a domain lease agreement somewhere that people may find useful. If there's any interest I'll try and dig it up. I think the idea of having a forum for this is a good one.

I have leased a couple of domains, don't know if there would be demand in relation to trade but as an area for learning it could have merit and could well be a growth area.

^ Agreed, i don't think you will find many domainers leasing from domainers, but could be a good forum for info from domainers that have leased.

You need to have a lease agreement before leasing a domain from someone?

I thought it would be simple like this, I want to hire your domain, I pay you £x amount each month and you set the nameservers to my hosts, if I don't pay, you turn the nameservers off, no?

Have you ever tried to rent a house or car or anythig else that comes to mind without an agreement?

The agreement can help protect the owner as much as the lessee.

    Hi Ben,

Yeah, I can understand if it were property or a car, but it's only a domain name, what is there to protect , pay this month and you can use it, don't pay next month and you lose the right to use it, I can't see any need for an agreement, too much red tape and paperwork these days.

The debate above shows why we need this board! Good points on both sides, and illustrative of possible different approaches.

As for what would be on the board, I agree at first that 'how to' content would be better, but if some leases were agreed that'd be even better. Acorn Domains could become known as the place to go to rent a domain, and hopefully we'd start to pull in more end users as a result... exactly the type of people that would pay more for any domains we're selling. Then we'd really benefit.

What if someone leased a domain from you, used it irresponsibly and then someone filed a drs against you?

This is just one example of why you need a contract.

Most of the obvious concerns are usually addressed in a lease agreement, for example at the end of the lease the lessee agrees to give up all rights to the domain, goodwill, search engines rankings etc, it also covers use of the domain and any option to renew or buy.

    Hey aZooza,

I'm sure this would be very useful. Maybe anyone else that has sample agreements could post them too.

Thanks for adding this section to the forum, some interesting points coming up.

Anyone have a draft agreement to share or a link of where to buy one?

If you google 'domain name rental agreement' you will come up with a few.

I am going with a solicitor on this one though.

I am renting out AutoMart.co.uk and wondered if anyone had any thoughts. I have not worked on this domain for a couple of years but it can quite easily turnover in excess of £50,000 a year, most of which (say 90%) is pure profit.

What figure should I be charging per month?

Sorry - searched high and low - couldn't find the one I had, although I remember getting it from a link on another forum. If I remember rightly, it was a Brit (Scot) who posted it and he's probably on here.

Scenario- I lease domain from you and say i want it for 3 years at £200pm. I then spend £5k getting a nice site done, spend £500 pm on seo and build lots of links. You then get offer of £50k for your domain from AN OTHER...........

Domain leasing is becoming more and more popular and I think it would be valuable to have a new forum area on this.

    Just my two cents.

I dont think it warrants it's own section. It will just dilute the others which could already do with a bit more activity. There are lots of members who seem to only use the sales thread and don't contribute to others.
Leasing can be discussed under the business section.

    just my opinion. :D
