Is this anything to do with him wanting maps.co.uk ?

 

Well, the Nominet board asked a very small minority of peoples views on the direct.uk proposal. They got a very strong "NO" answer without even asking the hundreds of thousands of UK small and medium businesses who have invested heavily in their .co.uk domains and their businesses.

Therefore this should be the end of it, as we all know if they did ask the opinions of all of these UK businesses, the answer would be an even BIGGER "NO".

Nobody needs a .uk, especially not uk businesses.

 

What would it take for the board to be given the boot?

 

Nominet and/or their board members set out with the clear objective to stash their coffers and make more money from double selling us something we and every business throughout the UK already owns. Ripping-off all of us and EVERY small UK business who have spent fortunes investing in the ... .co.uk the place to be!

Had this thing come into being it would have cost me a fortune and I guess the majority on here - £20 a pop x 10,000,000 waken up and smell the coffee!!

I would hope so to but the more people they asked the more people that would say yes also.. Perhaps it was for the best that the people that cared to make a reply to the consulation were the people that had a better understanding of the implications involved.

Your not as mere mortal as me I can assure you. I just picked up who he was today and it seemed a coincidence when I read it.

 

I'm trying to think of a great, positive slogan to underpin the movement : how about something like, um, er, ".co.uk - a great place to be" ?

Incidentally, on Tuesday evening I tweeted at three Nominet accounts, posted on Nominet's Facebook wall and posted to the Nominet community on LinkedIn asking what the outcome was of the board meeting. As far as I can see, there was no response on Twitter and Facebook (apart from mine tonight, although Lesley Cowley tweeted in what appears to be a personal capacity) and my LinkedIn Nominet community post has not yet been appproved by the moderators so I have responded on an existing thread. Maybe I have missed something, but this feels like a really disappointing failure to use social media to respond objectively to a straightforward polite question on a major consultation exercise.

 

Correct, we own both map.co.uk and maps.co.uk having acquired them many years ago from end users in the open market for "real" amounts of money. Anyone else could have done so before us, though of course now that door's permanently shut.

 

So you couldn't be tempted to part with the pair for any money?

 

How can I possibly answer that? What I can say with 100% confidence is they're not for sale nor do I intend to put them up for sale. I can also say that I doubt anyone would pay what it would take for that position to change (think Lottery-winning amounts)

 

You couldn't unless someone began throwing genuine £numbers at you. I responded only because you said "permanently shut".

 

Would you be upset if someone bought maps.uk?

Getting back on topic, I see that Nominet have already deleted the FAQ they'd been building up with further detail about specific aspects of the direct.uk consultation/proposal (as it then stood). Talk about erasing history!

personally I didn't see it as time to get out tickertape as Nominet's board clearly have become moneymad and powermad
I think they really will just change a few things round and try to push for it again
of course they should email all owners and ask them to vote
but considering this so called democracy we live in, not one of us has ever been asked to take part in a referendum and this is National concerns
they both don't ask for the same reason, because they know what the answer will be and they don't want that, they both have the same agenda, self serving
do a referendum in past 10 years for getting out of europe and it would be overwhelming to get out for example
