The great big .uk Rights of Registration thread!

I don't know if this is of interest to anyone else but I stuck the RoR release lists through DAC (starting at around 6pm each day) to see who had the best "luck". Top 10 TAG and the domain count from that days release file. Day 1 5246/254959 registered. 644 DOMAINNAME-AT 640 GODADDY...

Nominet Zone File Released in May

The same as the other zone files for me, to keep my DNS history site updated. I'm sure Nominet will also be pleased with the drop in domain probing DNS queries :).

How to find nameserver history of a domain

Yes a nameserver change would update the Last updated shown in the whois output. If you're lucky and it's a recent change (last month or so) my site (http://dnshistory.org/) may have some information although that's only going to give you about a 7 day window. Chris.

    Registrar registering .uk without permission

Initially the 2LD would need to be registered with the same registrant details as the 3LD, but there's nothing to stop Mr thief changing them and/or pushing it to a different tag afterwards and waiting to see if they get caught. I would much rather Nominet emailed the registrant with rights...

    Registrar registering .uk without permission

The only email sent is from my billing system (WHMCS). There is no email from Nominet if the .uk domain is registered on the same tag as the .X.uk with rights (see 3b from the Nominet pdf linked earlier) so after ordering the .uk domain it was live, in the zone and resolving (and the .X.uk...

    Registrar registering .uk without permission

Last night I tried it with one of my co.uk domains which I manage via WHMCS (I'm sure it could be done via other systems too it's just that is how I manage my domains). I added an order for the .uk domain to the cart (as a user) using a crafted URL (bypassing the domainchecker which would say...

    Registrar registering .uk without permission

Sadly in some cases it's fairly easy to go one step further than what happened to you in this case and register a domain on the same tag which will bypass the authorisation email. 1) "Mr Thief" wants to register example.uk, a whois later they know the registrar is "Example Registrar". 2) They...

    Registrar registering .uk without permission

My personal view on this is to be vigilant. Whilst I was sorting out the data for my .uk registration graphs I spotted a few .co.uk domains that had rights to the .uk initially but the rights had been lost. In one case I believe the .uk had been registered but there had been an issue with the...

    .uk some guessed numbers

2014-07-03 onward from the chart they're 978, 855, 360, 361, 889, 852, 845 but please remember only ~%80 have been discovered so there may be some weirdness in there that hasn't been picked up ;).

    2010 Renewal Dates

I've noticed there are a number of domains with renewal dates in 2010 (caboodleconsulting.co.uk, flatone.co.uk, smallfish.co.uk, etc). I wasn't expecting to see renewal dates going back this far, is it normal/to be expected for them to go back way past ~92days?
