Wanted: Domain Appraisal Why on earth

are people asking for appraisals of domains that are essentially a couple of words strung together (if you're lucky) followed by a suffix? Perhaps people need to start explaining why these creations have a value?

    Wanted: Domain Appraisal Domain's Appraised.

I can't see any value in any of them. Can you help me to understand by choosing the one you feel is the best one and explaining where the value is? Genuinely trying to help.

How much do you think it's worth?

It went to a well funded start up in the loans market. Given the current market it probably isn't going to get past start up. I think my timing was good.

Why aren't we selling more domains

We need to be proactive There's a good thought. There's nothing that an agent could do that I couldn't myself if I pulled my finger out.

Why aren't we selling more domains

I'm not sure whether that's a measure. I've sold a couple of dozen at what I'd consider market value. But we're the traders, I'm talking about end users. People who can buy a domain for £5k and turn it into a business worth millions.

Why aren't we selling more domains

This implies that there isn't natural demand for what we're doing. If we believe that there's a case for having a good domain name then it's a question of education which comes back to point 4. Why are there not more stories about domain names in the media? I got this one into the Financial...

Why aren't we selling more domains

Good point "Most people who we would sell to for end-user level profits wouldn't consider 2 or 3. I don't think." Yes, I agree with that.

In what way? More or less, do you suppose?

Why aren't we selling more domains

I'm not complaining, it's an observation. When I speak to other domainers we always conclude that while we're delighted to hold positions in a lucrative market sales are, well, slightly disappointing. Switched on people are building great businesses using stand out urls, so why isn't stock...

    The power of generic names

Case studies We need to get a few case studies together so people who are selling domains can show clients provable cases. People they can call or even visit to hear the story. I'm prepared to be one. I might give the sofa guys a call, they're obviously tuned in to what they have. Does...

    The power of generic names

Back in 1996, before Google and around the beginning of Yahoo, a friend called me and told me I should get involved in the inter world web net thingy. I registered some domains for my own business and a few more that I thought might have a value. The registration costs were over £100 then...

    The Treasury Solicitor

Did anyone else have any experience of buying domains from The Treasury Solicitor (Bona Vancantia)? They are a .gov.uk body who take over assets from bust companies, criminals and suchlike. I bought some great domains through this process at fairly good rates. Then it all stopped. Does...
