Its on the forum you cant miss it its the only new post.

shame.. if only they'd sorted the layout and format of it out properly it might have been useable.

Forums are a bitch to start, manage and make a success

If you actually took the time to READ the 'for sale' post along with the disclaimers, you'd probably understand a little more. I'm not after a battle here. UKDF will of course continue (with as is - currently high SERPs than Acorn) - that will be up to the new owner. Comments akin to 'it didn't take take long' etc. show the quality of uninformed and unqualified posts by - UKDF members!

Basically, Simon and I have other fish to fry. That doesn't imply we have thrown any towel in. Those of you who know us will understand. UKDF will continue - that's a promise.

Other uninformed and crass individuals have suggested that there's no need for a second forum. Those individuals don't understand the principles of a free market, and have nothing substantive to contribute to this debate, or any other - especially concerning Nominet's 'direct.uk' initiative.

I hope this post doesn't get deleted. Saved for posterity anyway...

Best wishes to all.

Dale

Talking of forums, Alan do you have a plan for if something happened to you in respect of Acorn Domains? If, for whatever unfortunate reason, you either couldn't manage the forum any more, or, worse, simply weren't around to continue working with it, do you have a plan that would see AD continue without interruption? :)

For absolute clarity I don't wish anything bad to happen to you :) but bad things unfortunately can happen. I've seen such things happen suddenly to people I know offline. I realise it isn't a pleasant subject to discuss but it's generally acknowledged that (a) you have your life and career away from here and (b) you consider this forum as *yours*.

As you will know your forum members are investing in it for whatever personal returns they derive. Some would genuinely lose out if AD were no more if something bad unfortunately occurred. I'm not aware if you have other administrators who could get to the crucial infrastructure (i.e. hosting/database/related) if that were the case. It crossed my mind reading through this thread, especially when I read Dale's comment about the benefits of multiple forums.

Thanks.

That is a GREAT question, and one I am fully prepared to answer as I don't under-estimate the time and value Members put into Acorn, nor the benefits they reap from it either.

Part of my succession plan is only 14 years old right now and more interested in discovering girls than domaining! but has grown up with Acorn as part of his life (like when I have had to fix it from a McDonald's store while on holiday) - he wants to own it one day - if domaining still exists, who knows!?!?

More seriously I have a business / disaster prevention plan but I have not implemented yet due to time and the £,£££ investment it would cost me to do so. I need to evaluate the ROI model.

I'd like to discuss this in more detail with you but not in a thread as I don't want to reveal too much in public about the back-end. If you are about next week let's have a phone call to discuss as I would like your opinion.

I am loyal to Acorn and do not see the benefit to post in multiple forums. Acorn has the critical mass and as such the activity.

On the whole forums benefit users in the present. So if Acorn was to go offline permanently :( I'm sure another one would spring up to fill the void.

Comments made concerning UKDF were not intended to insult but merely my observations.
