Hoping someone can resolve this one please. I spoke to Nominet, but that hasn't helped me much.

I'm a Self Managed tag holder. I had a few names that I'd bought moved on to my tag, but the seller didn't complete a registrant transfer to me first. It seems now that the only way I can complete this registrant transfer, as a tag holder, is to temporarily setup the seller as a connected name, do the transfer, and then delete the contact. Otherwise I ping the names back to the seller to do a registrant transfer, or I'm forced to pay.

Can anyone confirm that this method will work? Does this need the consent of the seller, formally or otherwise?

I'm sure I've done something like this in the past, and I've released names with only a tag change for buyers recently; does it depend on the type of tag you have?

So if the domain is in another name, but is transferred to your self-managed tag, you just need to make sure their name is in the connected names part of the tag settings. Once you can see the domain in your web domain manager (not the domain manager as that relates to the registrant, not registrar), simply 'transfer' it into your contact details, which will automatically delete the third party contact from your system, then just delete from connected names once you've checked the domain is all good.

Great, thanks, good to know this method works. But, I'll still need to know the name of the current registrant. I can't get it from the WHOIS, so I'll have to get their agreement as well I guess. Probably not an issue in most cases.

Correct, you will need their exact registrant name.

They won't (or shouldn't) because of GDPR.

I tried this route, as their reply times to emails are so long, but they struggled to understand the scenario I was describing; I'm sure it was them not me :)

Web Domain Manager > Manage Contacts - then copy name exactly as is to connected persons

Yes I think it does, but going that route someone has to pay up I think. As a tag holder and member that feels like it sucks to me.

Ah, so to add, if the domain was 'accepted' into your WDM already, it will show who the owner is. Just put that name into 'connected names' and you can make the 'transfer' in WDM.

When you click on "connected Names" in your portal under tag settings, on the right it lists "Currently Used Names" Your incoming new name will be listed there, copy and paste it temporarily into one of the 5 connected names boxes then do the transfer to yourself.
