since 11/11/07 have been finding domains failing to resolve, at one time I was personally thinking it was sedo's fault in drop in income, but since checking domains at 123reg,including expired domains mixed in, my domains come up '' no server ''.....so when I log onto 123's new customer servive email, what happens...............
.........Firefox can't find the server at 123-support.co.uk............??????????????????????/

from 123-reg

Dear 123-reg Customer,

Thank you for your email we received on 17th November 2007.

We are currently aware of a problem regarding 123-reg nameservers which in turn is affecting the visibility of websites and services such as email and web forwarding.

At present, we have engineers looking into this as a matter of urgency.

Please be assured we are working to rectify this issue as a priority and hope to resume normal service as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience in the mean time.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

If you require any further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Regards,
Grace

I assumed the same, that it was just a downturn in Sedo, now I am checking all my names and one by one changing the NS records to Sedo direct, what a pain.

I have written a little MySQL / PHP script that puts all my domains in a database and then does a check against each one to see if it resolves or not as some are working and some not, and I obviously want to fix the one that are offline altogether first.

Does anyone else have a script? Mine runs like a pig over 30 names at a time :)

I had started changing is to heartinternet, managed 30 before collapse, another 500 to go asap.

You do know Heart Internet was started by the same people in Nottingham that founded 123-reg? It is even coded the same way using cgi.

Heart Internet will also have the same single point of failure on the DNS servers - however it can offer faster support because it has less customers (younger version of 123-reg).

Even Daily http://www.daily.co.uk/daily/about.html was setup by Abby Hardoon (ex-hosteurope CEO).

Therefore a DNS hardware issue like this can happen to any one of those companies...it is just one of those things however frustrating.

If you have 500 domains it may be worth getting your own Nominet tag and have 2 different sets of nameservers on the domain names www.zoneedit.com

When you see the prices people sell on domains for, it still surprises me that people who have so many domains seem to want to use places like 123 and run their portfolio manually, surely the profit on only a handful of half decent names would pay the Nominet joining fee and save all the agro involved?

Thins is with some guys, you don't mean to start collecting domains names. I only wanted a few and then next thing I know I've got 700 of the bleeders. Yep agree I should get nominet membership. But how easy the admin is on my own tag is something I'll have to look into when a little less busy.

On that point does anyone know if tagadmin is working at the moment?, was going to buy but not sure if anyone ever said if it was working after the nom update ages ago.

I wonder if Heart have any plans to rectify the issue with regards the single server issue, I wonder what the cost would be with regards putting in backup plans. I imagine it can't be more than the amount of business you might lose if things go t@#'s up.

Is this issue still ongoing for you?
Have they given you any timescales for resolution?

with 123-reg, I know that I would be losing interest in job, if the press stories of sale / relocation are true , for me the service 4 years ago was great compared with service now ,heart internet at least answers you and HELPS CLIENTS ,not chase them away...zee
