Hope someone can help me as I'm pulling out the last few strands on my head..

I'm trying to redirect an old static page which brings up a 404 to a posting in Wordpress, can this be done ? Tried everything I've found on Google, but still can't get it to work.

Cheers Richard

Thanks woop woop and Ty for your help...

Still struggling I'm afraid, have tried :

Redirect 301 /path-to-old-page.html http://www.name.co.uk/article-name/

Then changed the permalinks back to default and tried :

Redirect 301 /path-to-old-page.html thename.co.uk - domain names and web hosting at the keenest prices

Anything stand out that I'm doing wrong ?? Thanks again..

Richard

I'm not too sure. The thing is with both of your new page bits above, wordpress is doing a forward after a user is sent to those pages. So it seems likely the 301 redirect is working fine but the landing page (new page) also has a wp redirect/dynamic bit.

What happenbs when you add the following line:

This should redirect a user to google, so you need to find out the actual 'real' url that a user needs to be sent to rather than a dynamic url which doesn't seem to be working.

*I'm not all that clued up on WP sites and dynamic urls so above might be wrong. Just seems to me that the way WP is handling your dynamic urls is that it is trying to redict the user after they land (even though the url is the same). You may need to check that "/?p=10" does actually take a visitor to a page with article id = 10
