The obvious suspects are again raising their heads above the nom-steer parapet to denounce the methods and motives of the domaining community following the DRS consultancy and PAB domaining discussions.
I've put this in the Nominet Members & Tags section for reasons that will become obvious.

He/She then goes on to mention the 'hammering' of Nominets systems. A theory which Andrew Bennett rightly countered. They then went on to his next favourite topic of 'wait lists'.
Just sign up to nom-steer if you want the verbatim threads.
It's quite plain though that certain members of the PAB (current and prior) have their agendas and opinions. To my mind through they are turning it into some Mcarthyite witchhunt with the commie catchers the root of all evil.
They are also missing some fundamental points.
Under the new Nominet setup, 'catchers' like domainers of whatever flavour should be seen and treated as what they are: registrars. They are Nominet members & tag holders, with associated tag(s) and a DAC account.
That they ultimately only register domains for themselves (or a small selected clientelle) is largely irrelevent. That they like any other registrar register domains on a first come first served basis, pay their bills, and use the Nominet facilities under the same conditions as ALL other registrars seems selectively forgotten behind the screen of lets have someone to get at.
Lets be clear. Restrictions for 'catchers' would also HAVE to be, by Nominets definitions across the board encompassing the likes of 1&1 as any other registrar. Are you saying that the number of domains a registrar can register, or whois/dac quotas should be restricted to the size of their portfolio? Something of this scale would no doubt be in breach of monopoly/cartel regulations and open to judical review claims.
Dropcatching has changed dramatically in the 4years I've been a member at nominet. Prenoms have come and gone and the quality of domains being released is a factor less the golden pot it once was. It's reached a peak and I don't think is the big issue it's being made to be.
Lastly, transferring the battle for domains from the DAC to a waiting list wil NOT change things, Only move the battlefield to be at the top of a waiting list.
Unless you all know different...

The questions that normally arise therefrom are often addressed as to
whether this sort of activity should be encouraged, discouraged or
prohibited, and to what extent it should be charged for. I think I've made
my point on those subjects before.
