Are People & Companies Using New Domains?

I live in hope ! I have a few generics that if they do start being used will be worth the punt.

What are the renewals? What could you better spend that money on?

Little enough for the risk/reward ration to be worth it. I've already had mid xxxx offers for a couple recently , which may still go through. If they do start to take off properly then a couple maybe very worth keeping for while. The names fit the extensions swell which helps. IE they are not domains like "vegetarian.music"

Best to focus on the .com and maybe your country code top level, because that's all that people are used to.

True. People buy what they and customers are used to.

Take the money and run.

Thats true right now. Not true maybe in 2/3 years.

People have been saying that for decades about .info and .biz, then .mobi, etc.

You can end up with a situation where you make just enough sales to cover renewals but in the end you realise you've spent tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds in total reg/renewal fees for zero profit.

Oh I will if they stump up whats been offered.

Of course. Its always a risk , but they are single word, generic , and in a couple of cases the coms have sold for millions. I'm prepeared to stick it out on a calulated risk level. I appreciate its a bit of a gamble . Hindsight is alway 20/20, and if we'de all known how much the com would take off we would have all bought good generics in the 90s, held them and now be dealing with all the gold you can eat.

Exactly @Edwin! Where are the major sites on .INFO, .BIZ, and .MOBI?

The only winners are the registries and registrars.

People have been saying that for decades about .info and .biz, then .mobi, etc.

What could your money and time have been better spent on? Other .COM, .ORG, .UK domains? Development? Vacation? Donations? etc.

Not sure why people get on there high horse about all the new domains now available.

If you don't like them don't buy them but don't belittle domainers that have seen something in them you haven't..

Some of my top earning sites are using new domains that make for short and catchy, highly accurate domains.

As long as they make me money I couldn't care what they are.

I think people just like to be right

Same as if Bitcoin crashes down now some people enjoy saying I told you so

Exactly ! There certainly doesnt seem to be an issue with indexing or ranking. I have developed a couple and they are doing fine also.

Quite a condescending statement. '..seen something in them you haven't...'. It could just be that we have seen *exactly* the same statements in the last 15 years and seen some good people go broke believing the hype. This is a domain forum - if you want people to ignore the past in *domains* and give you a feel good factor this probably isn't the place for you. If however you want to learn from others' mistakes and avoid going broke then it probably is the place to be. However you can guarantee that people who 'get on there high horse' would like to be proven wrong and would be amongst the first to join in if anyone except registries benefitted from new extensions. That still hasn't happened.

Saw on another forum that bitcoin.casino just sold for $26k. Thought I'd throw that in there.

Most that come here are not looking to develop. They want to resell domains.

Many people will go broke or already have. Only ICANN, registries, and registrars have benefited.

New domain registries can mark your domain as a premium, up prices at will, and take back your domain... how is that good?

Best to be realistic.
