Bomb blast in the US

2126: Roupen Bastajian, a 35-year-old Rhode Island state trooper, had just finished the race and donned a heat blanket when he heard the first blast. "I started running toward the blast. And there were people all over the floor,'' he tells AP.

2126: Mr Bastajian adds: "We started grabbing tourniquets and started tying legs. A lot of people amputated... At least 25-30 people have at least one leg missing, or an ankle missing, or two legs missing.''

Looks like they have identified one suspect and have him under guard in hospital (UPDATE: Police Commissioner Ed Davis says reports police have a suspect in custody are inaccurate), 12 dead (not officially confirmed, supposedly from a police source), nearly 50 injured after 2 explosions rock Boston Marathon, suspect identified and being guarded in hospital: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/nation...source=SFnewyorkpost&utm_medium=SFnewyorkpost

They've found more devices too. Hopefully we've seen the last of the explosions. Let's hope they manage to track down this sicko (or sickos).

My friend Dan flew over to run in the Marathon so my heart sank when I read this thread as it was the first I'd heard of it.

Thankfully he's just replied to my text to confirm he's OK.

Absolutely awful though, what a terrible thing.

no words to describe, SCUM doesn't do justice
glad your friend is ok bb99

Awful news.

Why would people register these

Domaining gone mad! Totally pointless and definitely in bad taste. Good on that site for naming and shaming...

Thoughts go out to those in Boston.

Shocking stuff, very bizarre incident.

Sounds like an amateur hour type destruction. Unfortunately amateur hour is pretty deadly too these days.

One report said that about the bombs actually. They called them small and homemade. Strikes me as the work of a lone weirdo, but who knows. The impact of this will no doubt cast a shadow over the London marathon too. Many will probably stay away.

It's going to be a busy week for the police in London with the Thatcher funeral, then the marathon.

Such a shame for this kind of thing to happen. It seems that this was designed for maximum impact in the timing, location and the rumoured content of the devices.

To me that's the biggest indicator that it was amateur hour, it actually wasn't designed for maximum impact regards timing. If you were going to do it, the best time would be the winner crossed the line, not 4 hours in. Although location is prime as you said, right near the finish line.

There are some really gruesome pictures of this on the Internet now.

Time may tell a different story and I imagine that they will get to the bottom of it within the next week or two. I'm just speculating at the moment and often these things when a complete different direction. America is full of some weird characters who get their hands on a lot of dangerous materials, that would raise alarm bells over here.

If I was to have an absolute punt, I would go with ex-serviceman who has lost the plot.

I made a few assumptions in my post.

There would have been greater numbers on the road at 4 hours, than the foreign elite runners at the 2 hour mark, and a higher proportion of them would have been Americans.

There would have been people there just to see the winners, but they would have been replaced in the stands and on the street by people there to see and support their friends and family finish.

It's a busy area of Boston for shops, bars and restaurants, so assuming they're open, there would have been hanging around, after watching people finish.

So I'm thinking "they" went for numbers, rather than a more high-profile attack when the winners would have been finishing.

Latest bombing on the news, doesn't sound like an accident, 20'th anniversary of Waco... explosion in Waco. Reports 60-70 dead.

Although still could be separate from the Boston one.

Latest report is that it was actually a structure fire that was being attended to by the local fire service, but that they couldn't keep it under control. As a result, it spread to a nearby chemical storage tank, resulting in the explosion, measuring 2.1 on the Richter scale.

BBC site has some pretty spectacular video of the explosion. Probably larger in scale/size than the Oklahoma bomb which was made from the same ammonia-based material, though this appears to be a fertilizer tank. Nursing home was only a few hundred feet away.

I suppose this is the video that you're talking about? Such a crazy video.
