After several years I've decided I need one less distraction and general excuse for procrastination.

I've spent 10s of thousands of pounds with members here over the years and its mostly been a great forum full of enthusiasm and quality debate.

2012 has been a funny year having gotten to the top of my game at last then having Google trample all over it I've realised some huge personal mistakes and also realised some huge gaping opportunities in business and life

I'm playing in the wrong pond ;)

Sitting back and looking at domains and affiliate marketing I've realised that no matter what your domains, if you are at the bottom of the food chain (eg affiliate) it really makes no difference what you are doing...you are at the mercy of too many people. I'm not a domain seller/trader. Never have been, not my bag. I'm a developer of ideas. All my income comes from direct deals and relationships not via networks and % handouts.

The world online for Affiliates in 2012 has become brutal in the Google eco-system. Online has matured finally and its Google setting the bar for entry into the competitive landscape.

Domains are such a small piece of the equation now.

Theres a whole world of opportunity out there that doesnt rely on Google eg Facebook, display, email... large publishers/sites that feed from Google that have tons of traffic who want to monetise it. Google has its place for me but it will always be balanced.

Just look at how many Apps get downloaded and used versus domain registrations/renewals... just sayin!

Fairwell Acorn, I wont be participating anymore. Best of luck everyone who I dont have on MSN etc

Got to agree. A bit melodramatic. Why not raise a few issues for debates in threads.

I agree with all the points though.

Did you have to quote the entire post just to add that? I'm reading and writing this on an iPhone and you caused me to have to unnecessarily use my thumb to scroll further!

He wasted more of his own time by typing out and posting that when he could have just gone without making an issue of it. If he was capable he'd simply dip in an out as necessary but he seems unable to. I suggest that he wants us to consider his departure and personal issues "relevant" but in actual fact I don't believe they should be. Rather his issues are for him to resolve and then he might be able to coexist here as and when it suits him without complaint.

Why not say goodbye as you want, what's wrong with that ?

If it's an issue for some perhaps there should be a new forum for 'Farewells' (also given that there's one for 'Introductions' )

Theres no issue. There are no personal issues. I'm not complaining about Acorn & certainly no drama or axes to grind with anyone apart from Google lol. I dont give a shit who thinks my departure is relevant or not.

This forum gave a lot to me and I made some good friends here which was nice so I thought it polite to say thanks and goodbye.

I've said my piece but I'll say it again...I wish people here farewell & good fortune.

If a mod could disable my account please. Cheers, Tom.

I think what one member is saying is... why leave, why not keep your membership and dip in now and again, it seems a shame with all your experience to just sever all links. I still wish you well and good luck but you should remember that from every adversity you will find the seed of equal or greater opportunity. There is not a single successful person that hasn't screamed at the sky on the road to achievement.

you know, .. its sad but i'm actually growing quite fond of the brutalness your posts now..

I like it when people say it how it is.

I think you are complaining about your own past decisions and your inability to have just used AD as and when you required it. Why couldn't you just sort that out in private like a competent adult? Why tell us that you failed to overcome this so you've had to completely remove yourself from ever posting again?

I think you must have wanted your departure to be relevant and might like to be missed otherwise you'd have just gone. If you had just gone you could have come back if you felt like it one day. Now you've made it so if you do return you will look a bit silly. You don't know what the future holds and you might benefit from returning one day.

See you with your new account here in the future. ;)

It's good to take a break now and then, I think we all get too sucked into online life these days and there is more to the world than this.

Hope to see you back sometime in the future and thanks for your contributions.

Good luck with your post Acorn ventures. I think we were all a bit spoilt by the business environment in the "goldrush" days, and as with all things, change is constant.

Rgds

Goodbye JMOT I have always enjoyed your post on the forum.

Sometimes there can be far too much analyzing motivations. I'm not sure why you'd want to stick your head out invincible and criticize someone who's having a hard time and backing out. You gave him advice to go quietly and someone could give the advice about 'nothing nice to say then don't speak'.

Surely people are allowed to vent with others who may understand. My family really don't want to hear much about domains from me. I think it's a useful aspect of this forum to complain and whine a bit and get over it.

I think the online stuff gets to many of us. We put in many unpaid hours (for some of us it's both work time and hobby time). And recent years have hit many of us.

While it's sad to see people go, it's strangely reassuring that other people feel like I do sometimes.

Everyone, let's have a group hug...

Best of luck. No more internet business interests?

What part of "gone" don't you understand? He's G-O-N-E hence he won't reply because he isn't here therefore you may as well talk to your reflection. It'd be more useful than if you want him to read or respond.

But he has not gone his account is still active and he is still capable of sending PM's.

Maybe he will have a change of heart and return he wouldn't be the first.
