Can anyone help me understand this

Hi

I have a EMD that has ranked No1 for years and was making £1k per month from the exact match term until Christmas when it bombed along with the revenue.

I have been working on it and saw an improvement to 3rd page a week ago.

Then a couple of days ago I saw a spike in the direct traffic which has produced £2500 in the last 3 day's all from direct traffic, what on earth could have happened out there that can have that sort of effect?

I had similar recently with a poker domain, only a parked domain not a developed site.
In this case a big player in the poker world mistakenly published my URL in some email marketing. Nice while it lasted but tailed off very quickly.

Nothing seasonal about it - got to be off the back of someones advertising think ill leave at that in case it is spotted and 2 and 2 are put together.
