I know this is old, old news, but I stumbled upon the Dot Com Company Wiki page:

Was interesting to read the list of 'well known dot com fails' - I didn't know all of them and following links out of wiki I've just spent about two hours learing the details behind some huge fails.

Even though it's old, I think that it's an interesting read and reminder.
 
murdoch losing a fortune on myspace personally thrills me :D

Yes. I'll bet too that with many of those deals the buyers were so eager to get their hands on 'the next big thing' that they didn't fill the contract with performance related clauses.

It goes to show that in many instances, that non-internet based companies struggle with running big websites. Especially back in those days when there was no customer loyalty on the web - everything was new.
