A .co.uk domain dropped late last night and became FTR.

I went through a registrar to purchase it, and all seemed fine - got the email, etc.

However, I then got an email around 10 a.m. to say the registration failed and I've now been refunded and the domain removed from my account.

Ho-hum - not the end of the world (slightly puts me off registering with them again though), but I did read a long time ago that with some registrars are faster at registering the name than others, and my situation is not uncommon.

So is there one registrar that stands out as the fastest ?

(I'm guessing the fastest way is to become a registrar yourself ?)

Any thoughts appreciated,
Steve

Sadly, that is what happened last night.
Paid, got confirmation email. Name in account.
Result: I slept well.
10 hours later - email saying name removed and refund processed.
Result: made a 'Basil Fawlty' angry fist gesture to the cat.

Thanks for your recommendation - Domainmonster (DM) certainly have a very fast order process (1 or 2 clicks, compared to 5/6 with Daily).

I'm guessing that the period of time between me placing my order and DM actually making the registration must be less than Daily.

I bought a domain on 28th March from 123-Reg, got the email confirmation at the time but it was subsequently still showing as being available, thought it might just be a problem with my browser and forgot about it for a few days....When I finally remembered to check it again it was registered to me but with a registration date of 2nd April on the Whois

Quite alarming if it had been something important!

I guess the moral is to double check everything with registrars

If you are serious about .uk domains, become a Nominet member and do it yourself directly, no dependence on 3rd party registrars.

Or as some would have-it. Join All those other Cooks - spoiling the broth. (Sorry couldn't help that comment)

I'm suprised 123-reg let you down Stellar, they are usually pretty instant - sounds to me that the initial availabilty of the domain was the issue - which happens from time-to-time.

Go back a few years - it was as common as Larry - and of course it still happens today

@stellar73 - wow, that was lucky !
Yes, to double check is something I have learned.

[I guess I (or the registrar) just wasn't quick enough.]

@ monaghan - you're right - I think it is time. I have enough domains to justify it.

Thanks for your replies

@ Bailey - thanks for your input (I'm a slow typist !)

I had same situation with 123-reg a couple of years ago, but no problems since with them.

Similar story - I ordered one with 123-REG - couple of hours later it was still available so got it from domain monster - all sorted within about 3 seconds.

123REG still charged me the cheeky busturds - need to sort that refund out!

Always worth checking whois via Nominet.org.uk (if a .uk) after registering and it will show if/when it is registered. Updated in real time and the only way to be sure it's yours.

I've heard good things about domain monster but no personal experience as I'm a Nominet member. Pretty sure they are a member here so they should be able to tell you the delay in registering. You need a registrar that does it realtime.
