Hi All,

can anyone tell me what they think of the above domain please. Not sure weather to keep or sell it on?

Any ideas would be much appreciated

Many Thanks

Andy

[football gossip] £0.28 Not enough data.

Zero UK searches?

If you can "sell it on" then I'd say do that, cos it's not worth anything more than you paid for it, unless you get that lottery ticket lucky strike.

Create a forum, try searching for a football site that would like to use it for their forum. Then it will hold value.

i like it,there maybe no traffic but that's not everything !!! it is very brandable and it does what it says on the tin...:)

My first thought on this is that 'gossip' is more of a feminine term. So I think that hits the branding a little. Otherwise it's catchy so could do well.

Realistically, there are lots and lots of domains that would make great sounding names for successful sites and services.

FootballGossip.co.uk is one of them. The problem is getting from a name to the successful service, or from the name to the big sale.

While it's true that the name might sell for a profit at some point, it's also true that thousands and thousands of domains like this are deleted every day because they didn't sell, then get re-registered by the next person who thinks it's a great sounding name - what Frank Schilling calls the never ending boulevard of broken dreams.

The problem is when someone's got money to spend on a premium domain, a lot of time they're going to want a name that means something - in the sense that it reflects something that people are already looking for - analogous to the shop window on a busy street.

The best way to sell this name is to build it into a successful website, then sell that - but you could choose a lot of names that would do the same job if you were going to pick a name with zero search volume. It's not that it's a bad name. it's just that there's nothing to back it up.

Best of luck in any case.

I think someone here runs the site Pompey Gossip : Portsmouth Football Club

I'm sure there is search volume for football related gossip, it could just be that the majority are team specific, 'Manchester United Gossip', 'Chelsea Gossip' etc etc, rather than general searches for 'football gossip'.

And yes, it does seem more of a feminine term to me, 'football rumours' seems to be a more popular term...

That all said take a look at the BBC site, BBC SPORT | Football | Gossip | Thursday's gossip column its in use there!

FootballGossip.co.uk... I really like this it does sound a good name and would benefit from a developed website/forum.

As a football coach myself for under 11's, I can see potential for a site like this.

good luck with this one no matter what you decide.

please PM me if you decide to drop it/sell it, i may be interested in developing in in the furture (not yet though, too busy :-( ).

regards
darren

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to thank you all for your excellent feedback (Good or Bad) I agree with everything you say and have taken it all on board.

I feel it is a verry catch name and feel that a forum would probably be the best option. I have run a forum in the past under a different name but found myself constantly deleting spammers.... Any idea how you combat this??

Being a massive football fan I would definately like to get involved with something I enjoy. Also if anyone has any ideas on maybe what type of site e.g putting team news on there, leaguge tables, football transfer news etc. What are the best ways to go about this. Maybe a feed so Im not constantly updating.

Thanks Again for all your help.

Andy

Yes i get the gist of it, the link is not actually working. How could I conert that to £££??

Andy

sorry, the link should have been a dot com.

at the beginning of a season (yes it will probably be seasonal), teams are looking for new kits, training materials and resources and if there are affiliate links on a forum that they are members off I am sure coaches and managers would buy from a site where they are already members of a forum??? maybe???? IMO

Hi i think it would be a good site for a forum the premier league has loads how about the football leagues its hard work i started pompey gossip in May and that is doing quite well. Or set up up with feeds from each division

Just checked it out, good work in a short space of time!! I feel a forum would be the best way to go, maybe a v bulletin job would do the trick.

I already have a logo for a site attached. Please take a look and tell me what you think?

Andy

Not too sure about the 'G' in gossip, but other than that, nice logo.

Get a good twitter feed on the site, find the best people to follow for football news, that would be a great source for 'gossip'.

I think the logo looks great! Nice job.
I agree about the 'g'. It could be clearer.

Forum software can get expensive when you have a few of them and have to pay the updates etc.

What I started doing now is using free forum software like simple machine forums... if the site gets bigger and lots of posts etc. you can always convert the forum later.

Thanks again for all the imput.

I just checked the logo in a smaller version and the "G" looks much better!! I think the twitter idea is great, that would definately get people coming back... Imagine it "Frank Lampard - is over the moon he got a brace against UTD today, now off out to Funky Buddah to get lashed!!!

Thanks

Andy
