instead of hijacking a thread i was wondering what games you played as a kid:

i remember playing top trumps do they still have them about, and also i used to flick football stickers against the wall and the closest won the sticker from the opposing player,it used to be two pence coins but the head of the school regarded it has gambling so put a stop to it.....;)

sega gamegear and atari lynx, if it didnt have wires it didnt do it for me :D

Yes top trumps are still going, my kids have star wars, dr who, and anything you can think of. They even have x factor ones.

When I was a kid, it was action man, comics and football cards, and then, a bit later, stickers. Used to love them, as me and my brother captured the swaps market in our school. Foil badges, cloth badges etc. Marbles as well.

Until 1980. Then the ZX80 arrived, and everything changed...

I remember saving for a ZX81 which had 1k memory, no sound, no hard drive, was in Black and white, memory pack upto 16K MAX, think it cost me £65  spent many a weekends inputing code to make a dot travel around the screen. etc

I remember curby were you throw a ball towards a kerb edge and had to make it bounce back and catch it. 1 point for just a return, 2 point for 2 hand catch and 5 for a one handed catch!!

Can't rember the name but we sectioned lines of on our road so it covered say 3 car lengths and on your bike you had to stay on without putting your feet down but tried your hardest to put others off with no contact in that area. A very good game!!

Chukie Egg on the C64 classic!

Ahhhhh the good old days.

Here's the computer I learned much on back in the 80's....

Outside:

Gutterball - bouncing the ball off the opposite kerb.

Cannon - trying to break 5 lollipop sticks places on opposite gutter.

GoKarts - made from old pram wheels and pieces of wood.

Throwing Arrows - quite dangerous thinking back, make from stick with pointed end and cardboard flights, used to be able to throw them 100m +

Bikes - Wedging a plastic cup or bag under the back mudguard of your chopper/grifter to make it sound like a motorbike when it rubbed against the back wheel. Pre-mountain bike days used to change handlebars on racer's and turn them into offroad trackers.

Inside:

Super Striker - Foootbal games where you press their heads down to make them kick a ball

Crossfire - 2 player ,Fired small ballbearings accross a flat surface

Frustartion - Family board game

Action Man - Training Tower, Jet, Eagle Eyes, Had a cord in chest which said "Action Man patrol hold it!"

Binatone Console - B/W console with 5 games all involving a square dot and 2 lines.

the chopper bike, the best bike ever made...and wasn't the gear change between your legs which was very dangerous because when you looked down you either wobbled that much you fell off or cleared somebody up,and i remember crossfire because my dog used to eat the ball bearings and he had to have a opp to remove the things from his stomach, and the action men with the lever on the back of his head to move his eyes.....ahhh memories

the chopper bike, oooohhh god i loved my one....gold with a white seat.....im off to look for a pic:D

At school it must have been British bulldogs being most memorable.

Also does knock down ginger still go on? Ive never had anyone do this over the past 20 years.

1 of the first ever & probably my favourite old game was Flimbo's Quest for the commodore 64 .. cant find a rom file or emulator for it anywhere .. shame really good game !

also loved skate or die on the BBC :D

Bear in mind the throwing arrow (also known as dutch arrow, swiss arrow, yorkshire arrow) uses a piece of string to launch the arrow using the same principle as a sling shot allowing much greater distance than simply throwing it with your hand.

Video link below shows a guy throwing one, can't tell how far it goes but one of the comments says they can reach a distance of 182m, record for slingshoting a stone is 477m.

Throwing arrow

Guy below quotes measured distance of 226m
