Geo domains aren't something I have considered previously, however I've seen some decent sales recently.
Looking in Google adwords these get in the region of 200 unique searches per month.
Are these worth the investment? Directories, end users? What are people dping with them and are thet making money with the low number of s:confused:earches per month?

I have low uk exacts on my geo site greatlever.com however I don't really care about SERPS as the town has a population of 13k people and it is local so I can promote it to the them like direct marketing.

If you can't promote it within the town you're aiming at and are relying on search traffic then it is a waste of time.

IMHO you've got one good advantage with that domain.

In my experience its much easier selling directly with a .com than the .co.uk

It's just got more prestige to the average joe, its easier to say and remember than "dot co dot uk". They'll also probably just assume you have the dot co dot uk anyway.

But when they go to their computer and type in great lever into G and your no where to be seen does that really matter..?

If they search for it then yes it matters a lot but if they just type .com then fine.

Maybe I'll get some leakage from the .co.uk but then maybe I will listen to my own advice and get on with marketing my own geo.

I like the OP would like to know if GEO's are worth it?

Realistically can a new kid on the block compete with the established offline media, local council and established sites. I understand that any new site would need a USP but how many of us type into G our home town; I know I never have.

Coming from a large city I have no chance of getting the exact match geo domain, is it pointless without it or would geo-word suffice if I really got behind building and promoting?

Can anyone share their experiences good or bad of building geo domains?

Thank you

Aiden

I would say GEO domains .com made a lot of money in sales. It's a high ticket domains, I believe.

Interesting link. Thanks.

I can understand place names being worth something but things like sheffieldcleaningservices.co.uk for example. I imagine these require a lot of work - is the return worth it?
