A new one for me, had a customer complaining that when completing the Nominet Transfer it wouldn't let them enter Go Daddy as the new registrar.

So I've just tried it manually for them from the Nominet control panel and got:

Handshake: Never (always rejected)

Anyone any idea what this is all about? How can a customer transfer a .uk to GD?

I think godaddy's tag is KEY-SYSTEMS-DE ?

Also i think from the godaddy control panel the domain has to be unlocked etc.

Dragon, thanks, you were spot on, that is the tag for GoDaddy...

...however GoDaddy are telling the customer that "they do not have an agreement with Nominet to transfer .co.uk names to GoDaddy"?!??!

So looks like I've a way to go to resolve this one unless anyone has any further ideas?

Doing .co.uk with godaddy is a joke, so is dotster, neither have software in place to handle them.

I direct people in yankee land to daily (via an afflink of course), and tell em to use that, until THEY can move it their registrar :)

I always tell overseas customers to get a free account at a uk registrar, much less hassle.

That KEY-SYSTEMS-DE TAG is a pain in the ass, loads of US registrars are key-systems resellers and I'm guessing they've chosen to never accept TAG changes because they're gonna be getting loads of domains moved to their tag with no idea which registrar is supposed to be dealing with them!

Nom seem to be trying to sort the mess out though:

I hate visiting Go Daddy, it's the most annoying, multi-optioned, 'are you sure/are you absolutely sure', 'can we interest you' site in the business. Authenticating anything is a pain in the butt, I really need to get off my arse and pull the .coms somewhere else!

Would you like hosting, privacy, every other extension, yourname.com and a gift voucher with your domain sir? Just let me pay FFS!!

Well annoying!

Lol, you forgot the 30% discount by the end of the month!! :D

:) As annoying as it is I still use it and most of my .coms are there

£4ish a year .com will do that to a man, we'll put up with anything :p

Don't have an solution for your UK domain transfer - though i can ask if you still want an answer ?

Despite some downsides, I keep all my top level domains at Godaddy. If you hold a reasonable quantity (not necessarily quality) of domains make sure you have an account exec assigned.

The advantages can be quite beneficial.

* Named account manager - with times and days available
* Direct dial telephone Number with desk Ext
* Telephone answer usually within 2-3 rings - including out of hours
* Regular custom updates from your a/c manager
* Discount pricing on all renewals (around 30% no codes required)

on a personal note my account manager is Jon Grant, I usually speak with him a couple of times every month - And the guys a real professional - also knows how to pull a few "rabbits out of hats" if you get my drift.

Sorry if I sound like a salesman for Godaddy but, I speak as I find - yep I know their interface can be a nightmare for the unfamilar.

I like em as much and as equally as 123-reg.co.uk for my UK's -

Never tried transfering a .co.uk to them though -

Have to agree. I use GoDaddy for all my TLDs. Never had a problem and always get good discounts and fair prices although I wouldn't even think about trying to use them for a uk or any other non-US country code domain.

I've just had an official response from GoDaddy which essentially is "At this time we are unable to accept transfers for .CO.UK domains."

Very poor if you ask me.
