Dear Google,

I liked your plain white background, why do you insist I have to change it?

Dave

Can you give a bit more background (groan) to this... does it relate to adsense?

cheers, Luke

Google will return to the classic white background - it's just a way of promoting Google accounts to those who don't have one. They did a similar thing with Gmail which can have a theme.

With a Google account you can personalise the Google homepage, including its background. You can of course choose plain old white.

Thanks put putting my mind at rest, I'll sleep easy now

I don't like change, never forgave them (whoever it was, I don't mean Google) for changing marathon bars to snickers :)

Not quite as bad as Opal Fruits to Starbursts. Why did Mars have to tinker?!!!

(Yes, I know it was to align us with the rest of Europe/World)

It's great for the office, it says look at me boss i'm surfing the web!

I still call it a marathon, the kids get really confused :)

Same here :)
Maybe we should start a campaign to get it reinstated?

I've never understood these rebrands, recently Norwich Union rebranded to aviva. They had a name that a high % of people must have heard of (isn't that the point of successful branding?). Why change it. The costs must be enourmous for what benefit?

I used to work for a company that did the same, They were a big name in their sector and then changed to a name no one has heard of. I used to say I worked for "the new name" and invariably the reply was WHO?, my reply was they used to be "old name" at which point everyone knows who you mean. Still happens about 10 years on! It's all lost on me.....

I don't mind the experiment in backgrounds (so long as I can have my normal page back tomorrow!).

But ditch the damn image fade in. It's about as tacky as animated gifs!

If I have to have a background image I want it there straight away, not have my eyes abused by a 3second fade in!

I've temporarily changed my google page to http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=all for today... no background.

My daughter will like it and will complain when its gone tomorrow.

Im getting quite used to it, brightens up my day haha
