Hi Guys

Just a quick question,

Is it worth buying domain names for the future? for example i have seen a domain name now that gets 14k local (not global) searches a month the domain for example is *****2011.co.uk i have check and the last 8 years have been brought and next years has been brought so would it worth buying the 2013, 2014, 2015 as a future investment?

sorry if this confuses anyone.

Have you found any sales for such date related names at domainprices.co.uk?

Rgds

So many factors to consider. Firstly i am assuming you are refering to Exact searches and not broad?

An example would be holidays2013.co.uk, the search volume would increase in 2012 but you are in a high competition for the term, so although the registration "Might" bring you a return it is not a domain i would consider.

If the term is a low competition term i would be surprised that you would find so many exacts.

That said, the cost of registration against a possible sale in the future could be worth the investment. If you can afford the investment then take a chance;-)

How do you find out if the term is low competition, sorry if this is a dumb question

1. Quickest way is to Google the keyword and look to see if there are advertisers on the right of the page and at the top.

2. Common sense - if it is tourist, popular retail, sex, gambling or finance then almost certainly high.

3. Google exact searches (click here), in the tool there is a green bar, under the header "competition" if there is green in this bar then there is competition, the more green the greater the competition. make sure you set to exact on the left hand side.

Fact is a keyword with so many exacts is very likely to be high comp
