I have tried desperately to get 1caratdiamondring.co.uk on the first page of Google and was at 53, made a new page with fresh content and got to 48, added more fresh content and got to 43, added more and got to 42.

Yesterday I got a link from the UKs biggest wedding forum with a link to my site, their site gets 600,000 UV per month.

I thought this would work magic for my rankings but today I checked and I am not even ranked at all now

They requested a recepticol link and I clicked no, any ideas what's going on people ?

Many thanks

forums usually have a no follow linking so worthless really, do some linking with relevant sites, even if they have low pr.

I would have thought it'll take a little while longer for that to have any effect?

You are on page 5 of Goog.co.uk for me. Very competitive field.

Your site has some unique content, but not much. I think you are getting there but much more straight-forward SEO needed.

The domain 1caratdiamondring.co.uk was only registered on 24-Apr-2010? Depending on the competition of the keywords you can expect a longer period of time to make it to the front page of google. During that time it can disappear from the rankings for a few days here and there aswell as appearing at random positions. Bing on the other hand - you can get to the front page a lot, lot quicker - well regarding keyword domains (including hyphenated .org.uks). But the content has to reflect your targetted keywords.

I think you could improve the content of the home page by including more physical text related to your target keywords. At the moment there are just some random lists of keywords and javascript included content. On the content pages, the comma delimited lists of keywords in a font colour just off white could have a negative impact. I would take those comma lists out and rewrite as content in a human readable colour - I'm not sure if it has a negative impact or is just ignored, but better not to leave to chance.

RSK > I know it's bl**dy fierce, will be worth it though with a minimum commission payment of £130 per sale :p

I think I might have to pay for some better SEO, I made a Squidoo lense on weddings and engagements but it was almost empty on the Squidoo-meter.

Jdubya > Very much appreciate you taking a look and pointing things out

I'm off to delete my random , words ;)

Edit > all done, no more hidden keywords on my pages, I'm going to leave this site untill the end of June and then see where it is ?

Is this code from your own page? I can't see any link tags here. Check the code from the forum that links to you.

Now something about G. Not all domains behave the same way with G. Three keywords domains are slightly different, they get a bit less G juice. But there is way of increasing it. It is called keyword duplication. E.g. if you have word1word2word3 then consider having pages in your root directory like word1_word2.html, word2_word3.html, etc.

G changes it's "internal PR", which affects your position, every 7-14 days. Hence ups and downs before you acquire "permanent PR".

Good luck!

I would add more content to your homepage. At the moment you have nothing that the search engines can read except:

Guide
Reviews
Facts
Crown jewels
Wedding vows
Policy
Tell A Friend

Tags

1 carat diamond ring
1 carat diamond rings
one carat diamond ring
one carat diamond rings
diamond ring
diamond rings
engagement ring
engagement rings
wedding ring
wedding rings

Also, create more pages wihth quality content, linking to other relevant pages on your site hwere appropriate. Got to the Google Keyword tool and find some related keywords (diamond wedding rings, diamond engagement rings, gold diamond rings, white gold diamond rings???)

You may find that you will get a few link exchanges with the affiliate competition over on the A4U forum.

Cheers dudes

Doodle - you just pasted the head of the page where the link is, you need to paste the code that surrounds where the link is too.

Sometimes the code around the link says:

<a href="http://www.example.com/" rel="nofollow">click here</a>

Click here is the anchor text, but you can see the rel="nofollow". This is telling the bots the site doesn't trust the link (aka they aren't vouching for you).

Sometimes the nofollow can be done in other ways too, but this is the most basic.

Cheers mate, I'll go take a look

This is the only bit mentioning rel= ?

That isn't a link, it's the head, title, and meta description from the top of your (I presume) website page.

You need to look at the source of the page on the forum that has your link on it, specifically the code around the link itself - the <a href=""> bit as pointed out by woopwoop above.

I found your "link", is it on the hi**hed.co.uk?

There is NO link there, mate. Just a line of plain text. It could not be dofollow or nofollow. For SEO / PR it's useless. Sorry. You need to get proper linking.

Good luck!

Cheers mate, that's why I was confused and couldn't find the link as do follow or no follow ?

I don't get it, there is a link on that page, I clicked to make sure it works and it does ?

Ah well, maybe it will bring some business from the forum itself.

Thanks for all replies

Keep at it. This isn't a build and forget website. Add regular compelling content and develop it into an authority site in your niche. Commissions too high to leave anything to chance. How about Twitter and Facebook too.
