forget adsense and replace with an affiliate link and you'll make more than you would with adsense !

Personally I find affiliate sites to be a waste of time. If I went to a site & clicked a button to "find out more" & suddenly found myself on a different site I'd lose any trust I had in the first site & wouldn't buy.

I have made little from affiliate sites with the exception of very focussed clickbank product sites, I do far better with adsense, though that could do with some significant improvement too.

dashu,

not being funny but you have obviously been doing something wrong , whether it is the layout , product selection or the general market

people make a fortune from affiliate sites

a perfect example of ONE of the best affiliate sites is moneysupermarket.com

examples of small ( mini site ) affiliate sites include cheapbedframes.co.uk

adsense is peanuts in the bed sector.. but that site pays out an average of £48 per sale !

when i owned kingsizebeds.co.uk just promoting kingsizebeds , same layout as cheapbedframes i was doin a min of £500 a month

affiliate sites are MUCH better than adsense and i challenge anyone to prove otherwise

Unfortunately not many of us are likely to end up with a money supermarket type site though are we?

I know one guy who makes around £12K per month from a clickbank product site, but he's in the minority as far as I can see.

I may well be doing something wrong - maybe you can tell me, what's the technique to use?

no secret .. except forget clickbank..

clickbank is mainly aimed at US affiliates because the US people are more likely to buy informational products than us brits ... we're smarter and just google what we want ..

take a look at www.minifridge.co.uk ( not my site )

notice the images on the right in the content unit ..

when clicked they redirect to the suppliers site & the product page

i think they earn 5% of the sale value .. but not sure

see how easy a mini site is to integrate with affiliate items...

doesnt have to be a huge site ..

keep gettin logged out after 5 mins or so really annoyin

I'm well aware what an affiliate site is, what I was asking you was what's your secret of making money from them.

Anyone can knock a site together with links in it to other websites, but people can tell when they land on a site whether it's a genuine website or a junk site - I mean just read that first chunk of text - how many times do you need to jam "mini fridges" into one paragraph?

I just think that as soon as people click an image & end up on a different website it destroys any trust or credibility & conversions will be low.

Also, whats the point of bothering if you only get 5% on a £50 or £100 sale?

You need to make a hell of a lot of sales to make any meaningful money. To make £250 if you manage to hit a 1% conversion rate you'd need 10,000 visitors to get your 100 sales.

I also disagree that clickbank is for Americans & we're "too smart" to bother.

I have 1 site that I added a clickbank product page on (just the 1 product) - it makes around 3 sales per month & I get £100 per sale - I need far lower amounts of traffic to get to £300 per month than you would selling low value products at 5%.

I think clickbank is a far better way to go than affiliate product sites - just aim for digital products for people who need information now or who are looking for reviews of a product they've already decided they're going to buy.

dashu.....

ok no how mcuh revenue would you have made with adsense ?? peanuts

affiliate sites do work as long as the content / layout is right ...

ive promoted programmes from clickbank before, some made money .. other made a loss.. heck one of my products even got sold via clickbank

but compare the US buying these products to the UK and there is a huge diffference

low commission is fine as long as you can hit the big keywords and get the #1 or #2 spot ...

for example my bed site .. i was on 5% but then negociated 10% .. either way it was still profitable and was #1 for king size beds before i sold it

i only had 1000 visitors a month ! .. max

i have always prefered a per signup fixed fee as opposed to commission personally but thats just me .. for example .. mobile broadband ... £70 per sale ....

it all depends on the niche as to what deals your going to get

i have no problems helping people find good niches .. they only have to ask ...

heck i can give you a few nice niches right now with a minimum of 5000 local exact searches

I agree with you that the sign ups on phones, insurance, etc are a better way to go, but really most affiliates make peanuts.

Clickbank works for me, it's as you said earlier - you have to choose the right niche & have the right products for the visitors.
