UK court systems set to adopt judiciary.uk domain names

England and Wales's judicial system are to change their websites so that they end with the domain name judiciary.uk. Registry manager Nominet approved the move following a request from the Judicial Office and the Cabinet Office.

Nominet to create .judiciary.uk

The Nominet Board has approved a request from the Judicial Office and the Cabinet Office to allow the judiciary its own closed second level domain (SLD), judiciary.uk.

Should really have been .law.uk or .jud.uk I don't know who's idea it was for such a long SLD because the guidance seems pretty clear that something like this shouldn't really be allowed.

Number 1a, in the policy document:-

1. An SLD should have the following purposes:

to act as a mnemonic for users of the DNS. For this reason the SLD should be as short as practicable (ideally, 2 or 3 letters long)

It's not the end of the world but what is the reasoning behind creating these policies for new SLDs if they're not going to be followed.
