What are your thoughts on the value of four letter non-dictionary pronouncable domains?

i.e. humm_co.uk / dumi_co.uk

Having registered my three initials with a 'z' on the end (one of my nicknames) I was surprised how little there are available not only on .co.uk extensions and was curious as to the affect on valuation.

It is often said that domains are worth as much as someone wants to pay (if the buyer wants to sell - thanks David!).

If that is true then I know the value of one of those domains above, but a confidentiality clause prevents me from telling you what it is. Low/Mid £x,xxx though

Any further thoughts on this? I have a fair few of these and am not really sure of their value. I can post them if required.

I'll try get the ball rolling with a request for ideas for these three... :)

Very few would be worth anything there are lots that’s say its very brandable but the reality is there not... some may sound like others s e.g gun, gunn etc but still hard to sell they might aswell by gunnn or gunnnn, Its much easier finding a generic term for a few k than using a made up word to launch a brand..…
Peoples names etc would be worth anything from a £xx to low £xxxx (depending on the demand )but other not worth the reg fee

In my opinion, its not that they are not brandable, because they are. However, you have to ask yourself what would be the thought process that a business would go through until it got to the point where humm is the domain they want.

'Humm.co.uk' might be relevant to the music industry, for example, but I think its a gamble that someone from the entertainment business is thinking "...I've got a new site/ product and I have to call it 'humm'..." Thats just an example - the point is that its a gamble that an end user will want it. If you only have a modest number of domains like this you might want to take a chance.

However, I still think there are more saleable domains still available to reg.

Hi ribble-valley,

Awns/co/uk and Aked/co/uk are both free to reg and are dictionary words albeit obscure, both are taken in the top extensions (awns-no local search, aked-170 local exacts).

Some people mistake awns for awnings!

I don't fancy them personally but could be worth a punt.

No idea on value though.

Cheers, Mark
