Seriously, I think I have a problem! I've been registering domains for various projects for over a decade now and have both let some gems go and held onto some complete dross. The best name I have at the moment is probably l-plate.com, the worst... There are so many but I am not entirely sure quite why I thought phcd.net would be a good idea to register.

Hoping I can learn from you guys.

Welcome to Domainers Anonymous

HI there welcome aboard and don`t worry we all have some shite Domains

i will be probably told different you will get some good pointers from here

so good luck and have fun

regards steve

Heh, were you going through the dictionary domain droplists by any chance? I ended up with buffoonish.com by doing that. At least I was able to do something amusing, (to me at least,) with that one.

haha.. i think i was thinking of everyday terms and typed in wind, rain, raining, hail, hailstones then hailstoning and it was avail so clicked buy without thinking twice! i guess its not too bad, but if its not a product related domain its a bit tricky to make money.. and even having a product related domain is still tricky to make money so you can see how it seems pointless registering hailstoning.com that way.. it's just like having a itchy trigger finger!!!

Maybe you could put some sort of British weather/travel based blog up on it and make a bit of cash of contextual ads. Or just accept sponsorship from a raincoat/umbrella manufacturer. :)

Have you tried selling any of your domains? I would suggest only allowing yourself to register a new name once you've sold one of your currrent ones. Selling soon gives you an idea of what is a good name.

Welcome, Gordon!

As others have said, you're not alone. I've even got some .info's.

Eeek.

Hey Accelerator!

If you wouldnt mind.. would you give some insight on where you would start off when trying to sell domains..?

I've never had any luck with listing on sedo and sitting back waiting for offers or BIN's being accepted etc and ive never really gone wild with the prices that i ask, like some people do.. i once got one in a moniker live auction when i once got talking to a man called Don Lyons (i think his name was) but it never met reserve of £4k! lol

Thank you!

I've only ever had a couple offers on Sedo and frankly they were a bit stupid. Couldn't get them to budge off of $60 even though that would have only left me with $10 after Sedo took there cut!

Is there any marketplace which is better that anyone knows of?

Oh sedo is crappy at times..

Sometimes its best to send out a pile of emails to companies who are relative to the domain..

Namedrive.com gets a few good bids, so ive seen at times..

Moniker used to be good back in say 2008.. now you have to transfer your actual domains to their snapnames account if you want to sell them through them.. as if..! that bloody doubles your registration costs doing that for all your domains unless they are your original registrar!

I wish there was a good single winner of an auction site.. if you have a really premium domain you could try 'latonas dot com' but ive not fancied trying it tbh..

godaddy works for some, but you have to pay to open an auction account or something!

damn it all!

If your names are good enough, e-mailing prospective buyers or sending them a letter is worth trying.

In general it's just good marketing ... domains don't sell themselves.

Welcome Gordon,

What gems have you let drop without realising they were gems or would become a gem?

Mark

There has been a few. The one that comes to mind straight away is cccf.co.uk. According to the old Estibot that's now worth over $700. :( There have been others too, so many others...

I don't think that's a big loss fortunately (estibot is normally way off). Weird that those are my brothers initials.

cccf.co.uk - looks painful to me and If somebody can justify that, best they don't speak.

Don't forget estibot and .co.uk are a perfect match - you can put your Irish building plot on it

welcome Gordon
