Hi Guys

I normally put my own sites together with Dreamweaver, but I'm giving wordpress a shot for ease of updating.

I'm looking for some recommendations for a theme or how to loose the blog look.

I'd like to strip out comments, wordpress mentions etc.

Basically I want it to look more like a site than a blog.

I often take a standard theme and strip out the comments etc. but it is time consuming.

As well as changing the theme, edit your WP settings too and the big decision, use recent posts as your homepage or a static page. Posts is better if you update the site often.

The biggest thing for wp to look more like a site than a blog is to use a static page for the home page

I'm wanting to run is as a web page, with a hope page and an articles page.

Adding half a dozen articles to start, then one per month.

Don't waste valuable time trying to create your own templates...

Go here: www.themeforest.net and buy them for around $20.

Then spend your time link building..... :)

I will, I was looking for some suggestions, there's far too many to look through :-D

I need to add some content first.

But I think I've got it sorted with a couple of main pages, then an articles drop down menu and custom menu linking to the articles.

I use artisteer to make my own themes as and when required. Easy peasy to be honest.

Excellent link. Very useful. Thanks!!

Agreed. Looks very useful.

I'm still deciding whether the WP is for me, esp for simple sites I can make them quickly enough in Dreamweaver.

I've gone into the php and css files and made some changes, remove all the mention of WP, altered some border sizes and colours and changed the size of the main banner.

All I need to do is alter the styling on the right widgets bar to something less like wordpress.

Artisteer does all that for you pal.

I'll take look at it. I'm used to building my own sites with html and css, often when I try using a package, even wordpress, it becomes a hassle when I want to change something simple and I can't find where the bloomin' code is.

If you are used to putting your own design together in DW and you are happy with your own design work, I can put your design into WordPress within an hour or so usually. Obviously it depends on the complexity of the design, but if its the usual... header, main content area, menus, sidebar and footer then its very quick to do.

I do WordPress work for a few members on here.

PM me if you want help.
