Owns the most .uk domains

Hey this is a silly question but i wanted to know the answer to. i have done some basic searching on the internet but couldnt find a real answer and it gets a bit gray around owning and managing domains. i think the biggest manager of domains is 123-reg with around 2m domains

but who is the largest owner of .co.uk domains? and how many do they have?


i know that any old person can have 1000. but for someone to have 50k+ would be quite a large amount.

A domain name is not an item of property and has no 'owner'. It is an entry on our register database reflected by our nameservers which we provide as part of this contract.

lol fair point, who controls/leases the most domains then? i was kinda picturing someone with 100k names but on the other hand that would be about 1% of all .uk domains if there was such a person/company.

have tried to do a bit of searching on the provided names and cant seem to find any details on really how many domains they hold. any ideas?

and sorry who is Chris Conwell? i googled him and said that he sold a 3d domain and thats about it.

Like Dale mentioned, this list outlines many although it shows tag holders rather than registrants so not all will be accurate. Equally there will also be many holders of large portfolios who do not have their own tag.

Edit: Excluding the obvious registrars, I think below is accurate in terms of being the top 10 domain registrants who are also tag holders.

When you take off the ones that registrants wanted to move away or not renew (auto renewed by 1 and 1). I bet the figure isn't that high

Do you never have second thoughts about some domains, when you come to renew them.. I tend to keep my names trimmed down, but looking at your amount, seems you renew everything.

I'm slowly divesting our portfolio of some of the older .com names and some IDN. Once I've finished that tidying process, I may do a little pruning in .co.uk. But they're so cheap to hang onto (compared to .com) it's much easier to just hit "renew" every month
