Hi All,

Hello from a newbie member.

A quick question. What determines whether or not a domain has premium domain status?

Regards

Frank

Here's an old thread with peoples ideas of premiums

http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/domain-appraisals/100376-ultimate-co-uk-domain-name-s.html

I guess the top tier would be short, descriptive, brandable, easy to remember/spell words in big money niches

Money
Cruises
Holidays
bingo
poker

Below them and still very nice like animal names, fruits and descriptive words..

lion
mango
smooth
bounce

Stuff like that

Thanks for the feedback Murray. So, to some degree, it may be down to individual opinion or interpretation. I get the top tier concept. Popular niches with a one word, maybe two at the most, domain. Like for instance:

golf.co.uk
football.co.uk
cricket.co.uk
mortgages.co.uk

Second tier of those I imagine could be:

golfcourses.co.uk
premierleaguefootball.co.uk
ashescricket.co.uk
flexiblemortgages.co.uk

Whenever I've been searching on a domain registrant's website I've often seen their list of premium domain names available and wondered who determined that they were "premium"

Thanks again for the feedback.

I've just been having a search around to see if any of my .coms are available as .co.uk.

I wondered if some of my domains could be classed as premium domains and it would appear that one may be as I have just seen the .co.uk version available to buy as a "Premium Domain For Sale", so I am guessing that the .com would be as well. Is that likely to be the case does anyone know?

Good rule of thumb.

If you have to ask whether it's a premium domain, then it isn't.

Thanks Scott. So, it's as simple as that. I wasn't sure if there was some sort of "science" to it, eg; length of domain; domain extension; age etc.

Well the good thing is then all of mine (in my eyes anyway) must be premium otherwise I wouldn't have bought them!! :D

The Rule #1

Do not insult any other member. Be polite and do business. Thank you!
