Hi all

I have many domains now and get many enquiries a week. I am still yet to find a formula on pricing my domains.

I think people when enquiring make an offer of $10 to start off, but whats people recomendation of replying ?

any ideas via pm / email please

if there are any good brokers out them, again email or pm.

I think this would be interesting for most people on the forum, can you please post any good information you get.

Cheers
Simon

The bizarre thing about domain names is that many sellers seem to adjust the price depending on who they think the buyer is.

It's not like a car where you can say: It's a 3 year old BMW whatever series, 50000 miles, good condition - therefore £20k trade, £22k end user.

As Simon says, please report back any useful info on here if possible.

I think it's straight forward. We all know which domains are worth something, and which are worthless. Surely buyers know this too.

If you want to sell domains price them like FCDomains. I bought a domain from him the other year for a very reasonable price, (£200) we wouldn't have bought it if the pricing level of some of the domains that get posted here are on for (i.e. £5,000).

Those people who quote excessive prices won't sell, those who are realistic will. Simple (isn't it?)

yeah but im looking for a realistic way to find realistic prices

From our experience it does depend on the buyer to some extent but there is no magic formula to price domains.

Example 1800Flowers.co.uk - most people here would probably say reg fee if you are lucky yet it sold for over £8,000

We set up www.domainprices.co.uk to track UK sales prices to give you all some measuring stick to base values on but it is still very hit and miss what you actually get for a domain and seems more luck than judgement.

We had a domain sitting idle for 6 months and then a Company formed a new trading name using that term and they offered £2k for it right away.

Yep I agree admin. There has to be a demand. If that buyers demand is more than the markets demand then the price they are prepared to pay is higher.

So by the nature of it, it's hit and miss. If someone really wants your domain, they will pay over the odds for it. Thats why trade sales are low, and sales to the public are higher.

Domain sales and prices are erratic. One reason for this is fluctuating demand. Sales for top generics are fairly consistent, and rising. For all other domains demand and value will only be apparent when you have a prospective buyer.

Setting prices is difficult unless you are happy to take a quick profit and move on, FC Domains is a good example of this. Holding out for higher prices may work if you are willing to wait many months, but if you get no enquiries after a year then your prices are too high.

There is a common failing in all areas of speculative investment. If you have the chance to take a good profit do you sell or wait and hope to get more? Whether the investment is shares, property or domains, many people will hold out too long and miss the boat

i cant say much as all my sales are through luck more than marketting.

If domains are like houses then in a similar fashion if you can live in it (build a site)rather than sell it then you can out ride any fall in the market. Its wether you can afford to see it through to the end - however long it takes.
As a co.uk we have the weak points of a non global appeal domain and even more dangerous the fact that they might decide to remove to .co at some point. These points put us in a different market to the established gloabl TLDs. As an investment this might put me off and i might plum for a .com or .net etc if available or even find altenatives. But as a current UK business there may some appeal.

Keys is right that value will only be apparent when you have a prospective buyer.

I think we'll have a FCdomains day at one point. :)

Where did this sell as it points to Sedo parking?

"Where did this sell as it points to Sedo parking?"

I've noticed similar on other domains that have sold for big bucks.

They don't point to anywhere and in alot of cases there's no site at all.

Why would anyone pay so much much for a domain name and just not use it - beats me

Perhaps reported sales on Sedo are not all completed/geniune/accurate. I am pretty sure that a few are not real sales.

"even more dangerous the fact that they might decide to remove the .co at some point"

..thats a scary thought.

how likely could this happen?

this has been battered around a lot with no real idea of what NOMINET :? are going to do. What we should all hope for is that they just dump the co.uk and give the current registar the .uk domain straight away. Not really that simple though - what about all the people who have invested (ill advised :) ) in .org.uk's etc???
Complex and thats probably why nothing has happened. how many other .co.?? TDL remain?

FC Domains

Hi

Has anyone ever dealt with them, I have emailed them several times with no response, called them and even faxed them - nothing!

Ray

Hi Ray,

You talking about Nominet or FC Domains?

If it's FC Domains, he's a member of this forum, be patient, he's a real nice guy to deal with just busy.

Regards
Johnny

Theres a typo on your home page...

"I never thought I wud be able to use a premium domain name for my business, but thanks to leasing I only pay a small charge a month"

Or maybe your trying to make it look genuine with baby language :p
