What happens to domains that expire that were regd pre-nominet? I noticed they don't get suspended. Are they available to be dropcatched when they expire or does it work differently?.

I'm sure this has probably been answered already but I couldn't find it, thanks.

They drop the same as any other drop.

Oh my bad, it was just I noticed recently two domains that should be suspended but aren't (one being desire), the only thing I could see that was obviously different was because they were pre 1996.

Sorry, my reply was in answer to this bit:

For those that don't go suspended and don't drop, there can be any number of reasons. I know from reading on here that there are quite a few domains that should have dropped years ago, but haven't yet, probably due to dissolved companies and things like that, so they sit there in limbo for one reason or another, then they might suddenly drop weeks or months later, or not.

partridge.co.uk was one of those "Registered on: before Sep-1996" dropping today and has just dropped.

Ah I see.

I just saw desire and polish both were expired but no suspended and noticed they were both pre 1996 so thought that might be the reason, obviously not though.

They usually have some intervention by Nominet themselves, or as a result of a request. I doubt 'desire' going to the drop, not knowing who the registrant is anyway.

Apparently they are in liquidation as of 1 Dec 2012, so you never know.. great name, hopefully one of you guys will snaffle it up.
