I say returning... I barely started.

I've a very small portfolio of domains but looking to the knowledgeable folk on the Acorn forums (enough ass kissing?) to give me a few pointers in return for witty banter*.

Welcome Sam - nice to see another new member

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy - or so my probation officer used to tell me

Welcome to the forum. Would you like to mention your best and worst domains? Good luck with your domaining.

Rgds

Welcome mate - any particular niches you speciallise in?

I only have a very small portfolio...

Best is probably 6teen.co.uk (which admittedly is poor)

Looking at getting into video game niche perhaps (own homefront2.co.uk as looks likely that'll develop into a franchise)

Worse is probably my set women4fun.co.uk and men4fun.co.uk lol

downloadgames.co.uk is for sale on SEDO. I think the guy wants arounf 7k euro for it - quality domain for the future but Im trying yo not have my fingers in the too many different pies!

Nice domain - I saw that browsergames.co.uk went for over £13k at the end of last year.

I'm probably going to try and focus on specific games, try and pick up traffic and a few affiliate sales, quick, small wins.

If I'm honest I'm still finding my feet with domaining, hence starting small! :)

Appreciate all the advice you guys can give though...

The only bit of advice I would give is not to develop sites with crappy domain names. If you have the money, it is worth investing hundreds or thousands of pounds into a proper brandable keyword domain. It will save you so much time ranking in the search egines if you are after a competitive keywords (where the moeny is)

Also, to begin with, dedicate all your time into making one successful site rather than spreading your resources thin. Once you build your cash up, plant a few more seeds (website age is very important so it can be worth setting up a simple wordpress blog just so that Google sees something there).

Then link build slowly to begin with and build the link acquisiting "velocity" as time goes by. Robert's your mother's brother!

Wise words.

I'm guilty of trying to 'run before I can walk' and buying a load of domains and just sitting on them (probably the worst kind of domainer, if you can even call it that!) but going to at least park them over the next week or two, then pick one or two and start developing.

I can code so don't need to outsource so hoping to get moving fast now.

Will share my experiences (good and bad) in case it's of any use to anyone in a similar situation.

Yeah thats what i mean IMO rather than purchasing a load of random domains you could use that money to buy something reallY good off here or sedo. You will then have one project you can really get your teeth stuck into.

Reckon there's any value to 6teen.co.uk? (have posted in correct forum 'domain appraisals' but nobody has replied as yet)

Would like to shift some of my old domains if I can (if they're actually worth anything) so that I can fund a purchase of a strong domain.

Personally not. you have to think what it could be developed into (monetised) and I cant see anything legal available lol Either that or you need an end user like a company called 6teen.

I just looked and there is a Canadian tv show called 6teen but because you have the .co.uk, you can onl really target the 1000 exact searches that come from the UK. Even if you rank you are likley to receive limited traffic and comms are going to be low.

Ahhhh, well then extended commiserations are due then Sam. :p

Welcome to the world of domains and all its magical joys and endless pitfalls (& too many late nights and many a 'matchstick under the eye' moments!).

Seriously, though - welcome, AD is a great forum to be and learn about domains! :)

Yeah I'd seen there was a TV show with the same name.

I had a buyer about 5 years ago (Pharmaceutical company) - only £200 but was worth it for a quick flip, they paid, I went through the Nominet transfer process but they never completed - very strange. Was responsible and tried to contact them but they never came back to me!

Might see if they'd like to buy it again :)

Thanks Alien! Yeah I guess insomnia is a positive for domainers? ;)
