Hello people,

A search engine question...

If I were to register a domain name say, today, how long would it take to be listed in popular search engines? How do you submit your sites to be listed in search engines? And what techniques do you use to get them listed quickly?

(Im not worried about search engine rank... yet!)

Ok thats three questions but any help is much appreciated!

By far the quickest way i have found is to insert a link to your new site on a page you already have indexed on the search engines.

I also always manually add to google

and lastly I also do a seach on my competitors and see who is linking to them and if possible, I add my own link.

How long does it take?
To be honest, the only engine I check regularly is google. Sometimes it is inserted within a fortnight, and sometimes it does not show until 3 months down the road.

.

Scooter's pretty much got it all covered.

Although there is a theory that submitting your site to Google could trigger a penalty, although i very much doubt this is the case.

I've had sites indexed and cached within 24 hours before, another good method is to use that address in your signature on forums.

Thanks for the info guys. :)

Scooter - thanks for the link - you'd think I would have found that really! Der!

BF - 24hours? - Is that using the techniques that scooter listed or have you got some tricks up your sleeve?

Is there a site submission link for Yahoo / msn? And if there is should I use it or would you advise against?

Cheers,

Rich

24 hours - Well i had alot of links from various sites of mine including some where the googlebot is pratically camped on it, so getting links from busy sites help.

I would'nt worry about submitting manually to any search engines, build the links and the bots will come.
